GUIDED KAYAK TRIP IN STEIGEN

WANT TO EXPERIENCE THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH NORWEGIAN NATURE AT A TIME OF THE YEAR WHEN MAYBE NOT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE DOING IT? THIS TRIP IS ALSO A GREAT TRAINING FOR SAFE ARCTIC PADDLING.

This kayak trip is done in a fantastic area along the northern Norwegian coast. Steigen is located one and a half hour north of Bodø and has in recent years been “on the map” because of the wild and beautiful nature. With all its islands and archipelagos the area is absolutely amazing when it comes to kayaking. Here are the white sand beaches, crystal clear and shallow water that makes it possible to experience nature both above and below sea level.

THIS VOYAGE IS AN EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCE. WHILST STAYING IN THE HEATED FACILITIES OF THE BARNEO ICECAMP YOU CAN EXPLORE, PLAY AND WALK IN THE FASCINATING PACK-ICE. THE SMALL FLAT AREAS SURROUNDED BY PRESSURE RIDGES AND LEADS MAKE THIS A PLAYGROUND FOR ADULTS.

On the second day we fly by helicopter up to the very Geographical North Pole. We plant our flag, take photos, and do a bit of celebration and make a quick call home via satellite phones!

SVALBARD - CROSSING NORDAUSTLANDET

ONE OF THE LEAST VISITED AND MOST ISOLATED ISLANDS IN THIS SVALBARD ARCHIPELAGO IS NORDAUSTLANDET. THE FIRST EVER SKI CROSSING OF THIS HIGH ARCTIC ISLAND WAS PIONEERED BY BØRGE IN 2012. NOW WE’LL GO BACK AND WE WILL FOLLOW THE SAME ROUTE. THIS IS A NATURAL PARK AND ONLY ACCESSIBLE BY BOAT, THAT’S WHY WE HAVE TO DO IT IN JULY - AUGUST WHEN THE PACK ICE COMING DOWN FROM THE ARCTIC OCEAN LOOSEN ITS GRIP.

The likelihood of seeing both walruses and polar bears on the way is an added bonus. Nordaustlandet is home to two huge glaciers, Vestfonna and Austfonna, the last is the third largest glacier in Europe. We will cross both in the course of 12 days. But with time for preparation in Longyearbyen and the boat travel in both ends you need to set aside 18-19 days. This is a classic expedition in the best Polar tradition!

FINNMARKSVIDDA

PREPARATION IS EVERYTHING. FOR MANY IT IS MORE THAN HALF THE JOURNEY. THEREFORE, WE HAVE MEETINGS BEFORE ALL THE IMPORTANT TRIPS IN ADDITION TO I.E. CALLS, E-MAIL AND SKYPE. BUT WE ALSO HAVE SOME SMALL TRIPS THAT ARE PERFECT TO GET YOU ON THE RIGHT TRACK.

One of these is a 5 day ski trip with sleds crossing Finnmarksvidda. This is a trip which will give you an introduction to the camping, equipment, the cold, the sleds and the routines, while the nights this far North tend to offer spectacular Northern Lights as an additional outdoor experience. Finnmarksvidda is the trip you can join if you don’t feel like being away for too long but still want to get some time off to re-set and rewind and maybe to evaluate your assumptions and to get the feeling of what is in it.

SOUTH GEORGIA IN SHACKLETON’S FOOTSTEPS

THIS IS A DOUBLE ADVENTURE: WE FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON AND HIS AMAZING JOURNEY ACROSS THE SOUTH GEORGIAN ICECAP. ON SKIS AND WITH CRAMPONS WE WILL NEGOTIATE THE CREVASSE FIELDS BORDERED BY JAGGED PEAKS AND CROSS OVER THE FAMED TRIDENT RIDGE TO DESCENT INTO FORTUNA BAY.

The other one is the cruise and the circumnavigation of this spectacular island, and also visiting the Fakland Islands and Antarctic peninsula, with all the adventures, kayak trips, excursions and fun included, landings with zodiacs on various locations, experiencing the rich wildlife – one of the most unique in the World, and also the colourful polar and whaling history of the area.
