SOLAR ENERGY
• The amount of potential solar energy is about twice as much as of all the non-renewableenergy resourcesin the world.
![Page 8: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)

Advantages of Solar:
• Completely free after setup• No pollution• No need for maintenance• Long life spans• Easy to set up
![Page 10: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Disadvantages of Solar:
• Expensive to invest in,• Dependant upon climate
![Page 11: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
WIND POWER
• In 2010 wind energy production was over 2.5% of total worldwide electricity usage, and growing rapidly at more than 25% per annum.
![Page 12: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
![Page 13: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Advantages of Wind;
• Widely distributed• Uses little land• Produces no greenhouse gas emissions during
operation• Used for:a. Electricity productionb.Drainage and water pumpingc. Sailed ships
![Page 14: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Disadvantages of Wind;
• Not pretty reasonable under most cases• Not constant• Expensive• Turbines are noisy• Produces pollution
![Page 15: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)

TWEA
• Turkish Wind Energy Association increases public awareness about the significance of renewable energy resources, specifically wind.
![Page 17: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Renewable Energy Resources Specific to Turkey
• Dung
• Nutshell

DUNG ENERGY• Traditionally cow dung has been used as a
fertilizer, though today dung is collected and used to produce biogas. This gas is rich in methane and is used mostly in rural areas as a renewable and stable energy source.
![Page 20: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
• Dung is a pretty common energy resource throughout Europe as it’s used in buses in Sweden which are named as “Dungbuses”

Energy Calculations
• Average energy consumption of an household
~ 3000 kWh/year (in Turkey)
• Average production of dung from a single cow
~ 600 000 kcal/year ~ 700 kWh/year
• Therefore approximately 4 cows can provide the energy needed for an house easily.

NUTSHELL ENERGY
• Turkey, often called as hazelnut land, each year produces almost up to 700 000 tonnes of hazelnuts which results in more than 400.000 tonnes of nutshell that is considered a waste product all over the world.
![Page 25: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)

Advantages of Nutshell:
• Costs at least 50% less than others• Almost no pollution• Produces little ash• Amount of burning process is 99%• Can be used in heating due to ethol
![Page 28: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Disadvantages of Nutshell:
• Storage takes a lot of space• Not consistent at all seasons
![Page 29: ALTERNATIVE (RENEWABLE) ENERGY RESOURCES TED ANKARA COLLEGE, TURKEY ANIL KIRCALIALI](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062408/56649e0b5503460f94af326f/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)

NUTSHELLS ARE USED:
• For heating,• For electricity,• Instead of charcoal in barbeques in the
most exclusive restaurants

COMPARISON
• Enegy & Cost Calculations
• 1.000 liters of Fuel-Oil : 10.000 KCAL ~ 880 €
• 1 tonne of COAL : 7.200 KCAL ~ 300 €
• 1 tonne of NUTSHELL : 5.500 KCAL = 130 €
