THE CHALLENGE

During the close season Wolves were looking to prepare themselves both on and off

the pitch.Whilst the team on the pitch is seen as the embodiment of the club, behind

the scenes is a network of back room staff and office employees, who have to prepare

documentation from contracts and tactical team sheets to administrative reports.

Despite the huge amount of wealth associated with professional football, Wolves, like any

business, wanted to see where they could reduce their costs and improve their office

efficiency. With this in mind they sought to revamp their printer and copier fleet.

Paul Lakin, Head of Commercial Affairs at Wolves said: “We operate our business with a

very careful eye on the details. In the run up to the new season we analysed our entire

business and found that we were operating a vast number of printers and photocopiers,

and a mis-match of technologies that wasn’t serving our needs at all. We have daily

requirements for printing documents, everything from back office filing through to

daily team sheets for the players, and we were creating this documentation in a hugely

inefficient manner.”

Wolves identified that they needed a consolidation of their back office infrastructure

that would be supported by the ability to monitor and manage the performance of the

devices on the network.

CLIENT CASE STUDY

Having reduced the amount

spent on printing and copying by

improving on our existing hardware, the

Optimise software provides us with the

ability to remotely monitor the fleet across

the main club, our retail stores, back office

and training ground.

THE SOLUTION

With over 35 years of experience and expertise in office technology, Altodigital was invited by

Wolves to undertake a comprehensive audit of the current fleet, to root out the inefficiencies

and recommend the technology they should be using. After completing a full audit of the

network, Altodigital found that Wolves had many more devices installed than they were using.

This was affecting the club’s ability to manage its printers and was draining energy needlessly.

Altodigital recommended that the club remove their existing legacy installation of just under fifty

different print and copy machines and replace them with twelve Kyocera multi-functional devices

(MFDs). These machines perform all printing and copying duties at increased throughput of

between twenty five and fifty pages per minute.

Having consolidated the number of devices that the club was running, Altodigital supplied Wolves

with Optimise, its print management software. With Optimise, Wolves are able to accurately

monitor the performance of each Kyocera MFD. The software allows them to manage the

amount of paper and toner used across the network, decreasing waste and energy consumption.

Dave Gibson, Managing Director at Altodigital said: “The strategic partnership between the two

organisations is the start of Altodigital supplying all of Wolves’ print and document management

requirements. The new hardware and software installed meets all of the club’s demands of

decreased costs and increased efficiencies.”

THE BENEFITS

The Kyocera MFDs not only produce higher quality prints compared to the legacy technology, but

they can also perform printing at increased speeds, encouraging efficiency in administration.

Beyond meeting the demands of the brief, Altodigital’s solution for the club also has the added

benefit of increasing the green credentials of Wolves. The installation of Altodigital’s Optimise

software means that the club can accurately monitor how much paper they are using and ensure

that they keep waste to an absolute minimum.

Paul Lakin commented: “Having identified where inefficiency was most prevalent in the club it was

pertinent for us to tackle these issues directly and contribute towards the smoother running of

the club. Having reduced the amount spent on printing and copying by improving on our existing

hardware, the Optimise software provides us with the ability to remotely monitor the fleet across

the main club, our retail stores, back office and training ground. If the team is to succeed on the

pitch, they need to be supported in the best possible way off the pitch.”

Dave Gibson concluded: “Wolverhampton Wanderers FC aim to secure three points every time

they take to the pitch. By improving their behind the scenes operations, they are preparing

themselves for success in the best possible way. The new infrastructure saves them time and

money and has their processes running a lot smoother, meaning everyone at the club can

concentrate on achieving success for the team and its fans.”
