ALUMINATION Fall 2015 Published by the Aluminum Association of Florida President’s Message By Tom Dowd Well, the ϐinal meeting of the year is upon us. I am really looking forward to seeing everybody there. The golf tournament is going to kick us off on Friday, November 6, and the board meet- ing will start Saturday at 9 AM. The facilities at the Shingle Creek Golf Club are top notch and they really know how to run a tournament. The staff is friendly and the marshals help steer the golfers around the course and keep the ϐlow of the round going. I hope all who are reading this, and play the game, will join us. It is a great time! The Saturday board meeting is going to be broken up into different parts. We will start at 9 AM, then recess at 10 AM to check out the exciting new products and information our vendors will present to us at the Table Top Expo. At 2 PM we will reconvene the meeting to discuss more business and then end with a rafϐle. Everyone who attends the meeting will automatically be entered once. The golf tournament will also provide opportunities to win rafϐle tickets. Cash prizes will be given away at the commencement of the meet- ing. This year has brought on many changes to the association. While change can at times be dreadful, I ϐind it excit- ing. Although we are not at the membership numbers we would like to be, we are at the height of participation not seen in years. The attendance at the meetings has been incredible. We are selling out all of the room nights at the hotels. We are having to add more and more seating space each meeting (sorry Wanda). The discussions have been productive, and the amount of members sharing their thoughts and ideas has been very beneϐicial. From the creating of the new vision statement, amending the bylaws, making the website more appealing, and having Friday night meet and greets, to bringing back an expo where the vendors can showcase their wares. The committee chairs have been hard at work and we all are reaping the beneϐits. I cannot thank them enough for their hard work and dedication. As the committee chairs go through their reports at the meeting, I would like everyone to understand how hard they have worked before, during, and after the meetings to get the prop- er information to the board. I encourage more members to join a committee or two. One of the beneϐits of com- mittee membership is you are able to have a larger voice in where the AAF is going, participate in the planning necessary to get where we need to be, and help decide the role the association will assume in changing the alu- minum industry. This is your ofϐicial invitation to get involved. Together we can change the industry. As we move into 2016, the membership committee is pumped up, the website has a new look, and the ofϐicers are energized. I want to personally invite you to come to the next board meeting and see for yourself the changes taking place and then join us as we help make Aluminum Specialty Structure Contractors better through Education, Product Research, and Innovation.
