FIRST MAJOR PROJECT IN MAURITIUS WHERE INVOLVEMENT FROM CONTRACT MANAGEMENT TO SITE MANAGEMENT (2004-2006).

The Logistic Involvement and Support to the Project (1) Setting up of a 20,000 sqft factory space for the local

fabrication of the Aluminium Curtain wall to benefit from 15% to 30% custom’s duty on imports.

(2) Implement a Procurement planning for all materials from South Africa suppliers.

(3) Establish a proper protocol for the implementation of a Quality Control Plan for the manufacturing of the Unitized Curtainwall panels with a target of 0% tolerance error.

(4) Organize a proper Site Management Team for the onsite installation of the Curtainwall and associated works following the PPE safety standards.

(5) Reinforce the Quality Assurance of the works on site by appointing a Portuguese site Agent expert on high-rise buildings.

(6) Coordination with Client, Engineer, Architect, Designer and Project Manager for the Mock-up panels testing in Al-Futtaim Bodycote open laboratory in Dubai.

Synopsis on the Involvement and Support to the Building Envelope Project on the NTB. Due to substantiate problems arising in the technical follow-up on the Chinese sub-contractor for the proper implementation of a Quality Assurance of the work in relation with the Performance Testing done on Mock-up panels in Shanghai-China, LBG (Louis Berger Group) Florida-USA, has requested a professional consultant in the field of Glass and Aluminium structures. After some networking internationally and locally, AFEL (Aluminium Façade Engineering Ltd) a locally based company has been appointed to give a full technical support to the LBG’s team on site in the middle of the project. Thus AFEL representive Mr Michael Athow who already had 14yrs experience in the said sector embarked on this challenging technical project which was the first of the kind in the Indian Ocean.

Tender Submission: Expecting approximately five professional tenderers on this type of works. After submission, need to make individual assessment and appraisal of each tenderer of the Glazed Façades. Time involvement: (10days x 8hrs/day = 80hrs)

Pre-Tender: Prepare Technical specifications requirement for Glazed Façades and associated works integrating parameters from Architect, Engineer and M&E. Time involvement: (6days x 8hrs/day= 48hrs)

Glazed Façade contract time schedule (Approx): Letter of intent to award – 1Mth - No involvement. Shop Drgs & Design calculations – 1.5Mths – Involve 6days. Procurement – 2Mths – No involvement. Manufacture & Installation – 5Mths – Involve 2days/ week over 5Mths. Snags & Maintenance – 12 Mths – Involve 5days. Total time involvement: (6+42+5)days x 8hrs/day= 424hrs

Technical Advisory Services Cost Estimate

Consultancy Services are charged in Hourly rate from 60USD to 90 USD net depending on complexity of Building Envelope and Location. Rate includes for professional technical assistance in office and on site locally, office logistic and consumables, local transportation, mobile phone & internet.
