The Aluminium Chair is one of the greatest furniture designs of the 20th century. It was originally created for a private home in Columbus, Indiana in the US, built by the architects Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard in the middle of the 1950s. Charles and Ray Eames blazed a new trail in the construction principles behind the chair. They abandoned the conventional idea of the seat shell and instead stretched fabric or leather between the two aluminium sides tightly but not rigidly.It adapts to the body snugly and delivers great comfort, even without extensive upholstery. The aluminium profiles lend the chair stability and lightness at the same time.
Some pieces from the Aluminium Group are now available in the new version “Dark Chrome” (EA 105, EA 107, EA 108, EA 117, EA 119), with dark chromeplated aluminium parts. The seat cover is made of premium leather on both sides and its armrests are also covered in highquality leather. These materials, brought together in a painstaking manufacturing process, create the wellknown silhouette of this iconic classic, but with new, modern touches.The Eames Segmented Tables are also available in Dark Chrome.
