Alumni meet In any educational institute, alumni or past students play a vital role in its

development and advancement. On 26th January 2015 Alumni Meet was conducted at

DKTE’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji. Principal, Prof. Dr. P.V. Kadole, welcomed the alumni and briefed about the progress of institute in last 2 years. He also discussed about role of alumni in development of students by supporting them for

trainings, visits, expert lectures and through frequent interactions. The interaction session among faculty members and alumni was conducted at

mechanical departments. In the interaction Dr. V.R. Naik carried out progress review and briefed about achievements of department. Many alumni expressed their views and were impressed with the progress of department in past years. They also assured their

whole hearted support for various student centered activities of the institutes. Response to this meet was overwhelming.

STTP on Advanced Manufacturing Techniques

The department of mechanical engineering organized a Short Term Training

Program (STTP) on “Advanced Manufacturing Techniques” during 12 to 16thJanuary 2015. The program was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. Sreedhar Jampala, Director of

Joshi Zampala Engineering Pvt.Ltd., Satara, and Prof (Dr.) P.V. Kadole, Principal, Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji. The chief gust delivered talk on current trends in manufacturing industry and the challenges. The expert speakers include

The program was designed to leverage incremental enrichment in knowledge of

competent individual in overall drive for making India a manufacturing hub. The program was attended by 52 faculty members who belong to Engineering / Diploma

institutes, research scholars, post-graduate students and industry personnel. The team of expert faculties delivered seminar on different topics related to Advanced Manufacturing Techniques. The broad areas of seminar are listed as below:

• Current and Future Research in Materials processing and casting design. • Advances in Micromachining techniques. • Micro/Nanofabrication Techniques and bulk lithography Processes

• Reverse Engineering. • Use of creativity & innovation in manufacturing.

• Casting design and simulation techniques • Micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS) • Design for manufacturability (DFM)

Industrial visit was also arranged to Sound castings, Kolhapur and participants along with faculty visited advanced foundry and Machining shop unit at 5 star MIDC

Kagal plant. The overall feedback from participants was really overwhelming. Prof.Dr.V.D.Shinde and Prof.A.R.Balwan coordinated this program.

Tech-Symposium 2015 Every year to provide platform for students and to exhibit

their skills, institute arrange ‘Tech-Symposium 2K15’. It was organized on 25thFebruary 2015, in which Mechanical

department organized two events named “Sustenance” and “Solid Modeling contest”.

SUSTENANCE

In this event, a group of three participants were given basic building block i.e. ice-cream sticks and asked to develop

an element subjected to certain dimensional constraint so that it can sustain maximum load. About 13 groups participated in the event.

SOLID MODELING CONTEST

Today solid modeling and simulation has become a very vital element of any engineering industry and therefore engineering students are learning various modeling

and simulation software. Keeping this in view mechanical department had organized solid modeling contest using CATIA. This event provides platform to show the solid modeling skill of students. About 28 Students from various engineering colleges

participated in the event. 15 students were shortlisted for modeling by conducting an objective test and a winner and a runner-up selected from these students. Mr. Asif Patel

and Mr. Abhishek Koik of DKTE were ranked as 1st and 2ndprize winner respectively. Activities of this contest were coordinated by Prof.D.A.Chougale.

Prof. A.D.Patil and Prof. V.R.Balawan were Chief and department coordinators for Tech-Symposium 2K15 respectively.

A one day workshop on Solid-Cast- Today industry needs industry ready technocrats and for this, students should

get skills such as modeling simulation analysis etc. in addition to academic qualification. Keeping this in view on 21stfeb 2015 a workshop on Casting Simulation was organized at CAD/CAM lab of mechanical department. In the workshop

participants were taught casting terminology, defects and casting simulation by using FDM software Solid-Cast. This workshop was very helpful for the students willing to

enter into foundry sector. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dr.V.D.Shinde and coordinated and conducted by Prof. D.A. Chougale.

Workshop on Curriculum Development- Department of Mechanical Engineering, D.K.T.E. Society's Textile and

Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji; successfully organized One Day Workshop on "Curriculum Development and Syllabus Framing of T. E. and B. E. Mechanical

Engineering" on behalf of Shivaji University, Kolhapur on 30thJanuary 2015.About 70 subject experts from various Engineering Colleges participated in this workshop.

Principal, Dr. P. V. Kadole Sir, Presided the workshop and enlighten by his

address to Faculty members. Dr. B. S. Gawali Sir, B.O.S. Chairman, grace this occasion as the Chief Guest and Dr. S. H. Sawant Sir, B.O.S. Member, also addressed the

Faculty member. Dr. V. R. Naik Sir, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, highlighted the

topics that needed deliberation during the Workshop. Prof.V.B.Magdum worked as

main Co-coordinator for this workshop.

Guest Lecture on NDT On Saturday 14th march 2015, Mr.Ramesh S.Jadhav and Mr.Sharad Pawar, Oil

Field Consulting &Training Experts delivered lecture to final year mechanical engineering students on the subject "Offshore opportunities available for mechanical engineers". They discussed importance of Non Destructive Testing followed by brief

introduction of installation, erection of offshore projects. This lecture was coordinated by Prof. Dr. V.R.Naik and Prof. M.A.Bote

Guest lecture on Power Engg. On Saturday 14th march 2015, Mr. A.D. Paranjape, Former Asst General Manager

Tata Power Co. Ltd.Mumbai, delivered lecture on the subject "Power Engineering" to

Parent meet On 31st March 2015, parent meet was organized at mechanical department.

Prof.G.S.Joshi, Training and placement officer,DKTE, explained current industrial situations and required students preparation for campus placement. Prof.(Dr.)V.R.Naik

delivered welcome speech to the parents and explained the importance of the meet. After it parents expressed their expectations from institute and expressed satisfaction over the progress of their ward. After this Principal (Dr.) P.V.Kadole discussed about the

Workshop on Robocell- On 26th April 2015 a workshop on

industrial robotics was organized at mechanical department for post graduate students. In the workshop students learnt

about robot programming and path trajectory simulation using software

Robocell. Mr. Datta Shinde from Robocell conducted the workshop and Prof. A.V.Sutar coordinated the workshop.

Send off of Final year B.E. Mechanical Students. On 13th April 2015, MESA organized send off function of final year mechanical

students. Prof.(Dr.)V.R.Naik, HOD -(Mech.Engg.), Prof.A.R.Balwan, Prof.V.P.Gaikwad

addressed the students and offered best wishes for their future. During the program, many students expressed their feelings and gratitude towards the Institute and Mechanical Engg. Department. During the same program Best Projects of year 2014-

2015 were also awarded. Prof. D. A. Chougale anchored this function. Faculty and supporting staff

Continuing Education Program- Through these programs DKTE always try to give more advanced and modern

knowledge through training to students and helps them to grow as industry ready

technocrats. Under this following programs were conducted this semester. 1. Automotive part design using CATIA

Every semester Department Mechanical department of DKTE's Textile and engineering Institute has conducted a certificate course, “Automotive Part Design Using CATIA” in association with Hoyt Engineering Solutions, Pune. This course is conducted

in the month of May and December when the students are on vacation after their semester exams. Uptil now about 350 students and faculty members from various institutes and working professionals have been benefited by this course. In this

semester it is conducted during 15ndJune 2015 to 10th July 2015. This was 16th successful batch of the course.

2. Industrial Automation Training on Hydraulics and Pneumatics

Industrial Automation Training on Hydraulics and pneumatics was conducted from 1stto 3rdJuly 2015 at Mechanical Engineering Dept for about 60 students at BOSCH

Center of Competence. The training included basics of Hydraulics, Pneumatics, advantages and applications, circuits and PLC basics. Such kind of training would be helpful for students for their campus placements and BE project work.

The lectures and practical hands on were conducted by Prof Dr. V. R. Naik, Prof. S. A. Soundattikar,

Prof. M. A. Bote, Prof. B. B. Kabnure,

Industrial Visit to IMTEX 2015 and Toyota Company, Bangalore Industrial visit of about 85 TE Mechanical students was arranged to IMTEX 2015 Exhibition and Toyota company at Bangalore during 20th Jan to 25th Jan 2015 under

the subjects Industrial Fluid Power and Machine Design II. There were 6 faculty members including Prof.Dr.V.D.Shinde, Prof.V.P.Gaikwad, Prof.A.R.Balwan, Prof.S.A.Soundattikar, Prof.M.A.Bote, Prof.V.B.Magdum and Prof.P.A.Naik. The

students visited various stalls of national and international organizations at IMTEX and got knowledge about the advancements in mechanical engineering mainly related to

Industrial Automation. Students also visited Toyota Company at Bangalore and went through assembly shop and training center and also interacted with Mr. Raju Ketkale, Senior VP of the plant.
