The “GRIP quality seal” of AGROB BUCHTAL stands for
many years of experience in the development of slip-
resistance concepts. Within its tile series, AGROB BUCHTAL
offers an extensive assortment of slip-resistant tiles cov-
ering the most diverse areas of application. This brochure
presents an extract of the AGROB BUCHTAL range.

With regard to slip resistance, ceramic fl oor coverings in private areas
are not subject to standard regulations. Independent of that, however,
it is recommended to use slip-resistant tiles according to your personal
safety requirements.

The easy-to-clean R10 surfaces with HT-coat ing or Protecta upgrading of AGROB BUCHTAL permit the consistent use of the material in adjoining areas of appli cation. Thus, a prod-uct change is no longer nec essary e.g. at the tran-sition from the entrance towards the sanitary areas.
THE USE OF R10 TILES IN THE COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL SECTOR
Extract from the AGROB BUCHTAL range:
Whether in commercial/industrial work areas, publicly used buildings
or in swimming pool construction – the fl oors should always be
smooth, slip-resistant and easy to clean. This is required by the Trade
Associations and the German National Statutory Accident Insurance
Com panies. Investigations carried out by the insurance companies
have proved that slipping is the primary cause of accidents.
For the commercial/industrial sector, the slip-resistance is indicated
by the valuation groups R9, R10, R11, R12 and R13.

Test on “inclined plane”
The products of AGROB BUCHTAL are assigned to the diverse slip-resistance cate-
gories by means of the standardized procedure of the “test on inclined plane”. An
inclined surface is walked on with safety footwear. Oil is used as test medium. The
tested surface can be smooth, fi ne-rough, rough or profi led. The angles of inclination
specifi ed in the test procedure exclusively serve for the assignment to the valuation
groups and can not be equated with the angles of inclination of slopes and ramps.

Profi led tiles
In canteen kitchens and workshops where there is an extreme accident risk due to fatty
waste and lubricants, special tiles have proved themselves on which vehicles can be driven
almost without noise and without vibration despite the slip-resistant profi le.
In the case of profi led tiles, the displacement space is indicated in addition to the slip-re sis-
tance valuation groups (R9-R13). The displacement space (V4 to V10) is the open space
between the upper walked-on surface and the drainage level of profi led surfaces.

In processing areas, where a great volume of waste is produced, the slip resistance is of decisive impor-
tance. Profi led surfaces make sure that nobody slips on a salad leaf fallen down on the fl oor or on oil run
out. Profi led fl oor tiles have displacement spaces in which residues can deposit which otherwise would
represent a risk of slipping. At walking, one only touches the elevated areas which ensure a safe move-
ment in this way.

Swimming pools and wellness areas
In swimming pools and wellness areas, great demands are made on the slip resistance. The visitors wear
shoes on their way from the entrance zone to the changing rooms. From there, they walk on barefoot into
the shower, and from there with wet feet to the swimming pool. In the areas frequented with shoes and
barefoot, on stairs and moist fl oors, strict slip-resistance regulations apply. Especially for the design of the
transitions between the slip-resistance categories, AGROB BUCHTAL offers an extensive range of fl oor
tiles. In this way, concepts ensuring optimal slip resistance and an aesthetic look at the same time can
be realized.

Extract from the AGROB BUCHTAL range:
The slip resistance for wet barefoot areas is subdivided into the valuation groups A, B and C.
This classifi cation is also based on a standardized test procedure: an inclined plane is
walked on barefoot, and a wetting agent solution is used as test medium. The test is carried
out on smooth, micro-rough or slightly profi led surfaces. In the tests, the non-slip glazes
of AGROB BUCHTAL with their micro-rough surfaces have proved to be particularly slip-
resistant and agreeable to walk on. The angles of inclination specifi ed in the test procedure
exclusively serve for the assignment to the valuation groups and can not be equated with
the angles of inclination of slopes and ramps.

Proved security
The quality of slip-resistant tiles of AGROB BUCHTAL is ensured by permanent con trols
of the in-house laboratories and neutrally supervised at regular intervals by external insti-
tutes as well as the participation in interlaboratory tests with accredited test laboratories.

Commercial/industrial areasThe list of areas of application for commercial/industrial utilization contained in this brochure shows an extract from the code of practice BGR 181 “Floors in work rooms and work areas with high risk of slipping”. The entire list can be downloaded under www.arbeitssicherheit.de.

The various areas are assigned to the valuation groups. Information can be obtained from the German National Association of Accident Insurance Companies and Deutsche Steinzeug.
Coeffi cient of friction/slip resistanceWorkshop rules as well as accident prevention regulations require fl oors to be smooth, slip-resistant and easy to clean. Special protective measures against slipping are necessary where there is a risk as a result of the use of water, oil, slush, grease or waste. This should be taken into consideration when choosing the surface material. This clear requirement is based on investigations carried out by the insurance companies, which proved that slipping is the primary cause of accidents.
