Pinal Justice CourtRedistricting NewsBy Pinal County The Board of Supervisors approved a redistricting in July 2017 from eight Justice Courts precincts to six. Two pre-cincts will also have satellite offices des-ignated in their jurisdiction. The Board of Supervisors approved new names for four of the six Justice Courts. Apache Junction and Casa Grande will remain the same.

Pinal County Justice Courts currently have 57 full time employees. Redistrict-ing has caused some changes within as-signed positions within each court, but the overall number will not decrease. Clerk staff assignment for 2019 have been finalized through a merit selection process.

Pinal County Court Administrative Is-suesThe committee currently meets weekly with key staff from the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) and other stakeholders to ensure an efficient tran-sition and implementation of the Board of Supervisors redistricting plan.

The current Apache Junction Justice Court will split into two separate juris-dictions with San Tan Valley having its own justice court called Pioneer Justice Court. The Board of Supervisors has au-thorized the construction of a facility on county property on Hunt Highway near Arizona Farms Road. This new facility will not be completed until April 2019.Continued on page 15

Two Consecutive Weeks Without Hydrogen Sulfide ExceedancesA Sign Of OngoingImprovement?By San Tan Times StaffContinued from page 1

This marks the second week in a row in which high levels of Hydrogen Sulfide have not been reported at Section 11 Wastewa-ter Treatment Plant.

After months of exceedances, it appears EPCOR my have gotten a handle on the situation in less than 60 days as Interim Manager.

There are still long-term challenges with the plant as it will either need to be decom-missioned or rebuilt to handle the needs of the community. But, short-term results must be a relief to the surrounding com-munity. Local resident at Oasis at Magic Ranch, Matt O’Connell, has said that the smell in the area has improved. Currently, there is no rotten eggs smell.

“Sometimes we’ll get a slight sewage smell, but we’ve been able to open our windows for the first time since we moved in 2 years

ago” O’Connell said.

This is a huge improvement over what the Oasis at Magic Ranch community has dealt with for the last several years.

Even as improvements are being made, the area must maintain patients as the to-tal improvements will take years to fully complete.

But, for those that felt nothing would ever improve, you are already seeing that changes are being made and residents are noticing those improvements..STT

Arizona Fishing ReportThe Reel DealBy Arizona Game And Fish Department

Here’s a sign trout stockings are really ramping up statewide: Trout have re-turned this week to Payson’s Green Val-ley Lakes.

This trout season features fish delivered every two weeks until early May. Good populations of bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish can also be found in this produc-tive lake ecosystem.

Trout can be caught on small spinners and spoons and with baits such as scent-ed dough balls, worms or salmon eggs. Popular flies for trout are peacock lady and zebra midges fished slowly, 4-6 feet below the surface.

To catch more trout, use lighter line in the 2-6 pound range, smaller hooks and a minimal amount of weight. Be sure to check regulations for daily bag limits, in-cluding any Special Regulations, for each water.

Anglers age 10 and over must have a General Fishing, Combination Hunt and Fishing (ages 10-17), Combination Hunt

Free Breast Cancer ScreeningContinued from page 10

The American Cancer Society states “Finding breast cancer early and getting state-of-the-art cancer treatment are the most important strategies to prevent deaths from breast cancer. Breast cancer that’s found early, when it’s small and has not spread, is easier to treat successfully. Getting regular screening tests is the most reliable way to find breast cancer early. The American Cancer Society has screen-ing guidelines for women at average risk of breast cancer, and for those at high risk for breast cancer.”

For average risk to breast cancer, basic guidelines are recommended to be fol-lowed. The American Cancer Society defines “average risk” as someone that doesn’t have a personal history of breast cancer, a strong family history of breast cancer, or a genetic mutation known to increase risk of breast cancer, and has not had chest radiation therapy before the age of 30.

Women between 40 and 44 have the op-tion to start screening with a mammo-gram every year.

Women 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.

Women 55 and older can switch to a mammogram every other year, or they can choose to continue yearly mammo-grams. Screening should continue as long as a woman is in good health and is ex-pected to live 10 more years or longer.

All women should understand what to expect when getting a mammogram for breast cancer screening – what the test can and cannot do..STT
