Yes, CAE Rive-Nord does more and
more from one year to the next… and
the results speak for themselves,
thanks to the work of a small, dedicated
team of five people collaborating
with seven inspiring administrators.
In 2017-2018, the CAE vigorously contributed to the economic development of its territory by actively participating in updating the Programme de développement des collectivités, or PDC (collective development program), as well as ensuring our presence on social media platforms and on different committees, watchdogs and advisory boards. We also made our mark on various pilot projects both in here in Quebec and Canada-wide. Repeated successes create momentum: the CAE has now broken the 5.5-million-dollar mark of investing in our companies – a record since the organization began in 1984!
Two administrators completed their mandate this year. We wish to recognize the incredible commitment of Ms. Nadine Le Gal, director of Cégep de Saint-Jérôme, for her support in implementing our policies and for her diligence throughout the CAE ethics reform. Our sincere gratitude is also extended to Ms. Anne-Marie Rochon, director of Centre 1444, for her skill and generosity in guiding our employees and finance committee members. Ms. Rochon brought the organization to an expert level of financial analysis. As a result, the CAE team and administrators can now base decisions regarding business projects on the work done by Ms. Rochon.
The CAE has a good reputation and plays a prestigious role in the business community, and as such receives regular requests to join its administration. It is with great pleasure that the CAE welcomes for the next few years Mr. Patrick Verstraelen, Director of Continuing Education at Cégep de Saint-Jérôme, and Ms. Carole Hart from the Groupement des Chefs d’Entreprise du Québec. Our clientele will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this added expertise.

The CAE Rive-Nord would like to highlight the 10-year work
anniversary of assistant-director Ms. Marie-Pierre Guindon.
She is a rare combination of self-sacrifice and determination,
with a thirst for learning and courage of conviction to take
on all the duties she has assumed since her arrival at the
CAE Rive-Nord. This year’s successes are in large part thanks
to Ms. Guindon. We unite in recognizing the significance of
her contribution and hope she will continue rising to CAE
challenges for many years to come.

This year, the CAE has devoted itself to helping Synergie Economique Laurentides take off. From now on, the territory’s five RCMs will mandate this organization to help businesses reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and respond to provincial government regulations on various projects. More specifically, this year the CAE:
Although the CAE Rive-Nord has been happy to participate in setting up an organization that will contribute to a healthier environment, Synergie Economique Laurentides is focusing more and more on institutional and commercial sectors. Since the CAE Rive-Nord’s priority clientele is the manufacturing sector, the decision has been made to withdraw from this project.
The CAE Rive-Nord nevertheless participates in a CARBON CREDIT pilot project directly related to its manufacturing
clientele, just like 14 other SADCs in Quebec.
The partnership between the SADCs, CAE and greenhouse gas reduction consultant Solutions Will Inc., will allow seven of the territory’s
businesses to benefit financially from the voluntary carbon market, where efforts made by companies to reduce their GHG emissions are quantified
and converted into CARBON CREDITS. These are then sold to companies that emit too many GHGs. Eligible projects are those which, for example, reduce fossil
fuel consumption, make the conversion to greener energies or reduce waste matter destined for landfill sites, etc.
The CAE prequalified 12 companies to participate in this initiative, of which 7 have already signed a contract with Solutions Will Inc. Eligible companies are not required to invest
financially in this pilot project.
The CAE Rive-Nord has “gone green” for several years now through various initiatives, both within the organization and with its clientele.

The CAE Rive-Nord was very active in obtaining funding and programs, such as SADC, in order to meet the needs of its territory. The Programme développement des collectivités (PDC) is currently being updated throughout Canada and the results connu avant la présente entente will determine the aid and support the organization will be able to offer. Many meetings were held requiring the attendance of the general management team as well as the governing board.

Other meetings attended by permanent administration:
The CAE Rive-Nord supported the innovation projects of two companies in the Argenteuil RCM - Brownsburg Electronik and Visusolution –helping them to take advantage of these grants in order to be more competitive and save precious jobs.
The SAPE program will return for one final year in 2018-2019.
Changes and restructuring that caused some disruptions in Quebec’s economic development organizations created a vacuum for young entrepreneurs hoping to launch their business. In response, the CAE Rive-Nord created an alliance with Futurpreneur Canada to support young people to achieve their business plans and thus get financing. The CAE now refers clients to RCMs, which offer this service through their economic development departments.
Soutien à l’aide de la petite entreprise (SAPE) is a project designed to help small businesses increase their productivity, profitability and sustainability by giving them access to specialized expertise in four fields representing major pillars of the Quebec economy: innovation, sustainable development, continuity, as well as business transfer and integration of information and communication technologies.

A Thought For HumanityOnce again, the CAE Rive-Nord
organized a conference for its clients during its traditional Christmas Cocktail
event. This year, Ms. Véronique Lamy from Électro Medic came to share
the experience of her team in Haiti, where they went to lend
a hand to underprivileged people. Her touching testimonial spoke
of sharing, giving and being welcomed, a humanitarian story that uplifted
everyone in attendance. Thank-you Ms. Lamy – your words will be forever
engraved in our memories.
