ALYTH IN BLOOM

What a difference a few months make

In our last article in the Voice we told of planting at the T-junction with the school children in a glorious sunny day in May followed by planting in a torrential downpour a few days later Planters around the square the bed at the bus stop and planters at Airlie Street Hall were filled----then we waited with anticipation and some trepidation to see the result

Based on the number of unsolicited compliments received our first year can be considered a success Many people have said to us as we work in our new Alyth in Bloom hi-vis jackets how much they enjoy the displays and how much they appreciate our efforts

And so to the future The immediate future is more of the same weeding and dead headingmdashcutting off dead flowers which then encourages new flowers to growmdashand watering by AYP We have begun to tidy up the path at the T-junction by cutting back the weeds a big job since there are a lot of weeds

Bulbs have been selected and will be ordered in readiness for planting in the planters in November We intend planting many more daffodils---kindly donated by a local farmer--particularly at the entrances to Alyth Subject to money being available we will fix ldquowindow boxesrdquo to the rails across the burn and plant up with the same plants as planned for the Square to bring another splash of colour to the centre of town And expect to see MANY MORE hanging baskets around the town

And we are in discussion with PKC about the state of the side of the burn

and a patch of Council owned ground at the top of Toutie Street PKC too would like to see improvement but as usual it all boils down to the availability of money We live in hope

The time spent this year by our small group of volunteers has been in excess of 250 hours We work as a total group when necessary we work in smaller groups and we work individually when we see something needs tended---all very informal

We kick off this monthrsquos issue of The Voice with a huge thank you to our fund-raising superstar Sheila Fisher and everyone else involved for the fantastic success of our Coffee Morning back in August Their efforts raised the amazing total of pound101662 in sales plus pound12000 in donations received on the day Sheila has asked us to thank in particular the following for donations of prizes and sale goods Heather Jackson in The Wee Shoppie ndash voucher for a balloon and she let us use her shop for donations Paul Ramsay ndash two nights in a Yurt for two people Margaret Ferguson ndash box of vegetables Pete Marshall via The Buckie ndash large quantity of strawberries Alyth Golf Club via David Barclay ndash round of golf for four Suzanne Milnersquos Cake Creations - pound35 voucher and last but not least The Mystery Lady (sorry we didnrsquot get your name) - a one-litre bottle of Famous Grouse a one-litre bottle of Bacardi and a bottle of wine Sheila also says ldquoThen there is the Alyth Voice Committee and the Sub-Committee of fund-raisers for all their raffle prizes tombola prizes hamper whisky baking and help in setting up and decorating the hall and tables and assistance on the day etcetera ldquoAll my stall helpers and coffee and tea servers ndash too numerous to mention who had to work their socks off the kitchen staff who did their usual fantastic job all the people who handed me donations on the day ndash too numerous to mention individually and I would hate to miss someone out ndash many many thanks Finally the people of Alyth and surrounding areas for their support help on the day huge amounts of donations and all those who attended and spent spent spent ldquoWe received soooo much support - all I can say is a great big thank yourdquo I would add my own congratulations and thanks to Sheila and her team and all the great folk of Alyth who contributed to this success very many thanks and well done Elsewhere itrsquos been sad to see Costcutter on Airlie Street finally closing down - letrsquos hope for some better economic news for the town soon The ldquono waitingrdquo cones along Airlie Street indicate that we can expect traffic for the new windfarm to be coming through Alyth and this monthrsquos update from the Alyth Development Trust indicates that plans are still moving ahead albeit slowly for the town centre regeneration works to start next year The same update also reports that RBS is pressing ahead with plans to sell their former branch on The Square Itrsquos thought the disappearing cash machine will be replaced with a newer one sometime soon but we are waiting for confirmation Hope you enjoy this issue

SCOUTS When appearing in front of a job interview an applicant was asked about teamwork ldquoWell he replied itrsquos a bit like a flock of flying geese their flight is much easier if they stick together They use up 28 less energy flying in a V shaperdquo Later on he was asked about leading the team ldquo Its like the flock of geese Irsquom quite prepared to take the lead if the need arises but I am equally happy to be honking away at the backrdquo Thanks to EK for this story The moral of this story became apparent over the weekend 15-17 Sept when Fiona Tasker Claire Gordon amp Graham Arnold took the Cubs over to Lochgoilhead Kenny Moyes amp Mark Kimber took the Scouts over to Dunkeld with Norman West amp Cath Jackson plus committee member amp helpers running the coffee morning We had such a good turnout of parents amp helpers at the Coffee Morning that I was despatched early over to Dalguise ( Honk Honk) Upon my arrival at camp everything was completely under control and my first task was to line up with the others for lunch ( Honk Honk) The Coffee Morning made an astounding pound1000 a figure we have never approached before ( Honk Honk) The Cubs had a fabulous time at the water activity centre (Honk Honk) The Scouts weekend was fun with activities and challenges to suit everyone in the group which Kenny amp Mark had completely under control ( Honk Honk) Aye itrsquos a hard life My sincere thanks to absolutely everyone who took part in any way over this weekend We achieved amazing goals which could not have been achieved without the splendid efforts of all involved Well Done and Thank You Meanwhile back at the ranch the Scouts have been carrying out survival skills Our cunning plan was to build bivouacs and sleep the night This would have to be done quickly and efficiently to allow for the dwindling daylight at our disposal Quick and efficient is not one of our redeeming features but we do try Our plans were further thwarted with the weather forecast predicting heavy rain throughout the night With visions of getting washed out in the wee sma hoors we decided that discretion was the better part of valour and even more cunningly built the bivies inside the Scout Hut It was an intriguing variety of structures that developed Quite how they would have coped with a moderate breeze never mind a light drizzle is highly debatable but sleep the night we did With bacon rolls to set us on our way we successfully completed the mission by 1000am And by this time dear reader you will probably have guessed that not a drop of rain fell all night Canrsquot win them all Ron Kirkpatrick

to We recently had a very successful revamp of DVD books vinyl cd department and it got a big thumbs up from all our customers and by the time this edition of the Voice is out we will hopefully have had another little sort out With the winter nights coming our way we have a great selection of books jigsaw puzzles (which someone very kindly checks for us) music and DVDs We will be selling the DVDs at 50p just supply the popcorn and thats a cheap night in Which leads me nicely into the donation this time round as it is going to Alyth Film Club another great example of all that goes on in Alyth

Busy Weeks for 2519 (Strathmore) Squadron Air Training Corps Nine cadets from 2519 (Strathmore) Squadron Air Training Corps spent three Wednesday evenings during August on the Young Fire-fighters Course run by the staff of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at Blairgowrie Fire Station During the course the cadets were taught home fire safety how anti-social behaviour affects the Fire Service how breathing apparatus works how to run out hoses and extinguish fires and teamwork This all culminated in the cadets having to run out hoses from a tender and then extinguishing real fires on the training area On Wednesday 30 August at the end of the course the cadets presented a cheque to the instructors to be forwarded to the Fire Service Benevolent Fund as thanks for presenting and running the course along with boxes of sweets for the fire-fighters to take with them on callouts On Sunday 3 September the cadets attended Blairgowrie Highland Games where they helped with the car-parking as well as running a presentation tent telling the public all about the Squadronrsquos activities during the year as well as other activities that are available to members of the Air Training Corps During the opening parade for the Games a party of three cadets had the honour of raising the Games Standard the Scottish Flag and the Canadian National Flag welcoming Canadian visitors to the Games

Any boy or girl aged between 13 and 18 years of age who is interested in joining 2519 (Strathmore) Squadron is invited to

come and meet the cadets and staff any Monday or Wednesday evening between 1900 and 2100 hours at the Joint Cadet

HALLOWEEN IN SCOTLAND By Ben Johnson (Historic UK Online)

Robert Burns famous Scottish poet wrote about myths legends and traditions associated with lsquoHalloweenrsquo written in 1785 Halloween in Scotland is all about the supernatural witches spirits and fire The origins of Halloween can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (summerrsquos end) The Celtic year was determined by the growing seasons and Samhain marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark cold winter The festival symbolised the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead It was believed by the Celts that on the night of 31st October ghosts of the dead would walk again amongst them and large bonfires were lit in each village in order to ward off any evil spirits All house fires were put out and new fires lit from these great bonfires Whilst bonfires to scare away the undead are still lit in some areas of Scotland more usually lsquoneep lanternsrsquo (turnip lanterns) are made by scooping out the insides and cutting through the skin to create eyes nose and mouth A candle is then placed inside to make the lantern These lanterns are also supposed to ward off evil spirits Nowadays thanks to the influence of American culture pumpkins are as common as turnips for lanterns Many traditions Burns mentions in his poem lsquoHalloweenrsquo still persist in Scotland to this day From the second verse Some merry friendly country-folks Together did convene To burn thrir nits anrsquo pou their stocks Anrsquo haud their Hallowersquoen Fursquo blythe that nighthellip As mentioned in the lines above a common Halloween tradition was for an engaged couple to each put a nut on the fire If the nuts burned quietly then the marriage would be happy however if the nuts spat and hissed then the marriage would be stormy Similarly if a girl put two nuts on the fire one for her lover and one for herself and the nuts spat and hissed then this was a bad omen for their future together The plants mentioned in the poem above were the stalks of the kale plant or lsquocastocksrsquo The stalks were pulled out of the ground after dark with onersquos eyes shut The idea was that the length and straightness of the stalk would indicate a future partnerrsquos height and figure Any soil on the stock would indicate wealth Until recently lsquotrick or treatrsquo was unknown in Scotland Instead children dressed up and pretended to be evil spirits and went lsquoguisingrsquo (or lsquogaloshinrsquo) The custom traces back to a time when it was thought that by disguising children in this way they would blend in with the spirits that were aboard that night Children arriving at a house so lsquodisguisedrsquo would receive an offering to ward off evil Today it is expected that the children as well as dressing up also perform a party trickmdasha song or a dance or recite a poem for examplemdashbefore they are offered a treat which could be fruit nuts or more commonly nowadays money or sweets The Witchcraft Act of 1735 contained a clause preventing the consumption of pork and pastry comestibles on Halloween The act was however repealed in the 1950rsquos so it is now legal to also offer pork pies or sausage rolls to children as treats lsquoDookinrsquo for apples is a Halloween party game which involves taking an apple floating in a basin of water without using your hands either by spearing it with a fork held in your teeth or by biting it This is another Halloween tradition with its roots in pagan times The origin of bobbing for apples stems back to the ancient Celts who held apples as sacred In fact you could say that the modern-day Halloween traditions of pumpkin lanterns bobbing for apples and trick-or-treating have their origins in the ancient Celtic traditions The Samhuinn Festival in Edinburgh is an annual event marking the Celtic New Year Presented by Beltane Society the event features a spectacular procession of fire music dancing theatre and fireworks and takes place along Edinburghrsquos famous Royal Mile

Alyth Walkers

The August walk started in Backmuir wood Muirhead which

covers a large area and contains a diverse range of trees

From the top corner of the woodland the walk continued

along a Drovers trail which is reputed to have finished up in

Dundee after passing through Liff village

Heading west the group stopped for a break in Fowlis Green

before taking the quiet minor road and track to Piperdam for

lunch

The return route was along the Fowlis to Liff road and back

via the bottom end of Backmuir to the start point

ALYTH YOUTH PARTNERSHIP In September we made our second trip to Bydgoszcz Perthrsquos twin city in Poland Lots of work went into making this happen and a huge amount of support and goodwill from the community gave us the financial backing we needed From our quiz night to our race night and all the donations from various people we were able to have a busy programme of activities with our new friends Thank you to every single person who supported us Highlights of the trip include a visit to the museum of soap and dirt () go karting () and a day out in the beautiful walled city of Torun The most satisfying aspect of the whole process though was watching the young people interact and make friends with the Polish youngsters who were our tour guides for the weekend The young people also met with the Deputy Mayor of Bydgoszcz and enjoyed a tour of the city chambers We tasted new food learned a few words of a different language and hopefully the young people will feel that they have benefitted from the trip in a number of different ways As one of our hosts Joanna said to them ldquotravel makes you a better person because you learn to understand and value difference you improve your communication skills and you build the confidence to be a more independent personrdquo Back home our clubs continue to be well attended and enjoyable lsquoThe Tribersquo for young people in P5 amp P6 have been cooking playing games and enjoying art They will be doing a few trips over the winter months and building positive relationships with our youth workers The Youth Club for S1 amp S2 have decided they are going on a trip abroad so have come up with a plan for lots of fundraising On that note our next event is a Coffee Morning on Saturday 11th November Wersquoll have lots of youngsters and their parents helping to make it a success so please come along and have some goodies with us Our bowling sessions with Alyth Bowling Club have been a roaring success and when we start again in April we will need to have 2 sessions a week to cope with the numbers The Hub Drop In is aimed at young people in S2 and above and we aim to provide an environment where youngsters can relax chat to workers plan trips and events get help with homework and applications and generally feel part of the community Over the course of the coming months we will be running various initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of our young people as well as thinking about how we repay the tremendous hospitality we received in Bydgoszcz We plan to host our Polish friends here in Alyth in June and show them round the braw toon

Charitable Status We are very pleased to announce that we have recently been awarded Charitable Status Our Charity number is SC047606 See the OSCR (Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator) website wwwoscrorguk to view the details held for the Trust and find out how charities are regulated Defibrillators We are hoping to soon be able to install three potentially life-saving defibrillators in the town A defibrillator is a machine that gives an electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who has had a heart attack and whose heart has stopped beating or is beating irregularly You do not need first aid training to use the units as they are designed with simple instructions so that anyone can use them in an emergency In order to be effective this life-saving treatment needs to be given as soon as possible after a heart attack and before an ambulance has time to arrive One defibrillator will be installed in the ldquosquintyrdquo phone box in the Market Square and funding for this has been donated by the Collective Dairy who are working with the charity Community Heartbeat Trust to install 15 machines throughout the UK in memory of their Director Mike Hodgson co-founder of the company who died after suffering a cardiac arrest while cycling We hope to be able to fund an additional two machines (the number we need for the size of our population) one in New Alyth and one near the Den of Alyth Car Park from a Drumderg Windfarm grant award for which we are applying Look out for news of a free defibrillator information evening that will show people how these machines work ndash we will let you know the date when it has been arranged RBS Building ADT has reluctantly decided to abandon its idea of acquiring the former RBS building on Market Square for Alyth under the Community Right to Buy legislation The RBS has told us that the building will almost certainly go up for sale sometime in October which means we donrsquot have enough time to do whatrsquos needed to exercise a ldquoCommunity Right to Buyrdquo properly To do so ADT would need to change its articles of association - the legal document that says what the company can and canrsquot do - but that will take longer than the RBS timescale allows Wersquore still planning to do it anyway in case any other ldquoCommunity Right to Buyrdquo opportunities come up in the future and the changes will be fully discussed and (we hope) agreed at our next AGM in 2018 But more importantly the debate in Alyth about what might be done with the building hasnrsquot really focussed on any clear ideas yet and were not sure the RBSs timescale gives the community enough time to do that Thanks to all who signed the petition and put forward comments we really do appreciate your time and effort Town Centre Regeneration ADT is still working with PKC on taking forward the Alyth Town Centre regeneration The latest information from the Council is that work on the scheme will begin in ldquoSummer 2018rdquo but we hope to discuss the details with them when a meeting can be arranged ADT is currently discussing with PKC and Alyth in Bloom the burnside planting and there is an ongoing debate about how to remove the existing unsuitable invasive planting and what type of attractive sustainable and low maintenance planting should replace this These decisions have to be made in the light of the limited maintenance that the Council can offer and the limited volunteer capacity of Alyth in Bloom to help with the maintenance of such a large area from the Market Square up to the All Abilities Bridge Last Chance for Community Council Election The following notice dated 11 September 2017 has appeared on PKC website notifying of the Community Council By-election on Thursday 28th September 2017 It reads ldquoNOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that following the Community Council By-Election Alyth Community Council will disband as of date of election due to insufficient nominations being received Gillian A Taylor Returning Officer (Community Councils)rdquo To apply for Election to the Community Council contact Community Councils Team on 01738 475004 or by email communitycouncilspkcgovuk Christmas Fayre ADT will be hosting a Christmas Fayre at Alyth Town Hall on Sunday 26th November from 11am ndash 4pm to raise funds for our work Tables are going fast so get in touch with Paul Prettyman to book yours now Tables cost pound10 plus a donation for the raffle Contact Paul on 01828 633548 or by email on prettyfolkbtinternetcom Suggestions Please We are reviewing where ADT will spend its energies over the next 6 months We would therefore welcome any other suggestions as to what the Trust should be working on to improve Alyth Get in touch by letter to the Voice via Facebook email to Marian Bruce on infodriftwoodscotlandcom or in person to any of the Directors of the Trust Amanda Blakeman Marian Bruce Alison Bowman Paul Prettyman Kevin Coe Barbara Prettyman Simon Montador Nicky MacFarlane or Alistair Chisholm

Equinoctial Colonsay Where to begin We were in Colonsay last week for the Folk Festival whose tenth year of existence it was Colonsay in September with the equinoctial gales blowing is the place to be Algal foam lay inches deep on the golden sands of Killoran Bay when we walked there Nothing like that to blow away the memory of summer The roaring Atlantic and the sight of a pink bathing cap bobbing and disappearing among the breakers of the ocean is enough to stir the mind Then to watch this bathing cap turn into a man who comes ashore walks off and disappears Surely this was an ugraveruisg Except that the bather introduced himself at that eveningrsquos gig in the Island Hall as the swimmer whose progress I had watched over at Killoran that afternoon The day before these interesting happenings I took a turn along the road that leads from Kilchattan to Scalasaig First a pair of ravens flew over head Then I looked at a flock of starlings chattering on a telegraph pole Further on I watched some ducks bobbing up and down on the searsquos edge I expect they were eiders but they were too far away for my binoculars On some more yards and I wondered if I was looking at twites and continued on my way Nearing the summit of the road I turned round and started back There were those twites again or were they A car drew up on the road behind me and a voice said lsquoIs that an eaglersquo I looked over to where the voice was pointing and had to agree The bird did look very much like an eagle too big for a buzzard and a different configuration Perhaps it was a white tailed eagle not a golden eagle I looked through my binoculars again and consulted the app on my mobile phone There was white on the tail and the head and neck were a lighter colour than the body immature golden eagle was my thought lsquoA young golden eaglersquo I said to the car and its occupants With that they wound up the windows and sped off By this time the twites had gone and I resumed my walk lsquoTwang twangrsquo No surely not I thought but then why not I seemed to remember that there were choughs in Colonsay Such were my thoughts as I scanned the sky for those black birds with their scarlet beaks legs and feet There were two or three feeding in a grassy area near me too far away to make out the colour of their beaks and other parts though They took to the air and flew their beautiful graceful aerobatic way here and there One landed on a fence post near me and at last I could see clearly the scarlet downward curving bill and those brilliant legs What about those twites then When I saw them close up they turned out to be sparrows Well there you go wishful thinking again Back home after a week away I realised that the swallows and house martins had gone Summer really is over The winter visitors will be returning as you read this Paul Ramsay

Interview with Peter Kellet by Kevin Coe

Few recent arrivals in Alyth have had so long a journey to get here as Peter and Maddy Kellett The couple moved here in May this year from Kinlochewe but their history stretches back across Scotland England Africa and India involving mining midwifery ranching fishing and boat-building Peter was born in Hull but in 1947 at the age of 13 he moved with his parents to what was then Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) in an epic overland trek across France and the Sahara down through Nigeria Cameroun and the Congo Peter left school at 16 to work first as a miner then as a farm and ranch manager In 1962 while visiting friends in Mpulungu on the shore of Lake Tanganyika he was introduced to a young British nurse called Maddy who was working as the local midwife Maddy had been born in India where her father was general manager of Burma Shell and she had opted to work in Africa after her training But their first lsquodatersquo didnrsquot go quite as planned Maddy recalls ldquoMy driver interrupted us to say I was needed - an African woman was having a baby by the side of the road Peter followed and offered help so I asked for the seat cushions from his Land Rover to put under the womanrsquos head and he found some tarred twine to tie off the umbilical cordrdquo Peter laughs ldquoShe was holding the baby by its heels and patting it on the back and when I asked why she said she thought it looked a bit blue whereupon I suggested she remove her sunglassesrdquo The couple married in 1962 and went on to have four sons while Peter managed a succession of large cattle ranches in Northern Rhodesia and later in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) In 1974 worried about the growing political and economic turmoil in Africa the couple decided to move back to Britain ldquoWe stayed with Maddyrsquos mother in the New Forest for a whilerdquo recalls Peter ldquoIt was the first time we had seen colour TV and there was an item featuring a man in a kilt saying that you could walk all day in the Highlands and not meet another soul ldquoComing from a country the size of Spain but with only five million people Britain with its 65 million was quite a shock So when we saw this item about Scotland we bought a caravan and went north Having done some commercial fishing on Lake Tanganyika Irsquod been considering fishing as a full-time career and someone recommended we look at Ullapoolrdquo Maddy takes up the story ldquoOn the day we arrived in Ullapool there were two little boats down in the bay and Peter said lsquoIrsquod like one of thosersquo

-continued It turned out that one of the boats the Harvest Lily actually was for sale so within a week he had the boat and a short while later all the necessary equipment and was fishingrdquo They lived in the caravan with four small boys for several months then rented a house for the first winter followed by a static caravan and finally a council house in Ullapool which they eventually bought ldquoWe were 12 years in Ullapool then Maddy got a job in Kinlochewe so we moved thererdquo says Peter ldquoFor most of the first 30 years apart from a short spell building boats back in Africa I skippered four boats one after the other fishing the Minch for prawns crabs scallops and lobstersrdquo Health problems persuaded Peter to hang up his oilskins in 1999 though Maddy continued working until 2001 Eventually they decided their house in Kinlochewe was too big for just the two of them and it was time to downsize With three of their sons living in Kyle of Lochalsh Birnam and Kinnesswood (the fourth lives in Australia) Peter and Maddy started looking for a new home somewhere along the line of the A9 ldquoWe didnrsquot know Alyth at allrdquo says Peter ldquobut this house came on the market so we thought wersquod take a look It turned out to suit us perfectly Alyth is a very nice place to live - the people are very friendly and itrsquos nice and compact One of the big attractions is I can do my shopping on my bicycle - I donrsquot have to worry about parking the carrdquo Maddy adds ldquoAnd the great advantage over the north-west Highlands is that Alyth has no midges which is a big plus in my bookrdquo Speaking of books Peter has written his fascinating life story in his autobiography ldquoChihatchirdquo which in the Shona language means ldquohorse whispererrdquo a nickname he earned through his skill at taming and managing horses in Africa ldquoMaddy my brother-in-law and my sons all twisted my arm to write the bookrdquo he says ldquoand at least it will give our eight grandchildren some idea about what their grandparents got up tordquo ldquoChihatchirdquo was published in 2016 by Caracol Publishing If anyone would like a copy please do get in touch with editoralythvoicecouk and we can put you in touch with Peter

EDITORrsquoS LETTER

We kick off this monthrsquos issue of The Voice with a huge thank you to our fund-raising superstar Sheila Fisher and everyone else involved for the fantastic success of our Coffee Morning back in August Their efforts raised the amazing total of pound101662 in sales plus pound12000 in donations received on the day Sheila has asked us to thank in particular the following for donations of prizes and sale goods Heather Jackson in The Wee Shoppie ndash voucher for a balloon and she let us use her shop for donations Paul Ramsay ndash two nights in a Yurt for two people Margaret Ferguson ndash box of vegetables Pete Marshall via The Buckie ndash large quantity of strawberries Alyth Golf Club via David Barclay ndash round of golf for four Suzanne Milnersquos Cake Creations - pound35 voucher and last but not least The Mystery Lady (sorry we didnrsquot get your name) - a one-litre bottle of Famous Grouse a one-litre bottle of Bacardi and a bottle of wine Sheila also says ldquoThen there is the Alyth Voice Committee and the Sub-Committee of fund-raisers for all their raffle prizes tombola prizes hamper whisky baking and help in setting up and decorating the hall and tables and assistance on the day etcetera ldquoAll my stall helpers and coffee and tea servers ndash too numerous to mention who had to work their socks off the kitchen staff who did their usual fantastic job all the people who handed me donations on the day ndash too numerous to mention individually and I would hate to miss someone out ndash many many thanks Finally the people of Alyth and surrounding areas for their support help on the day huge amounts of donations and all those who attended and spent spent spent ldquoWe received soooo much support - all I can say is a great big thank yourdquo I would add my own congratulations and thanks to Sheila and her team and all the great folk of Alyth who contributed to this success very many thanks and well done Elsewhere itrsquos been sad to see Costcutter on Airlie Street finally closing down - letrsquos hope for some better economic news for the town soon The ldquono waitingrdquo cones along Airlie Street indicate that we can expect traffic for the new windfarm to be coming through Alyth and this monthrsquos update from the Alyth Development Trust indicates that plans are still moving ahead albeit slowly for the town centre regeneration works to start next year The same update also reports that RBS is pressing ahead with plans to sell their former branch on The Square Itrsquos thought the disappearing cash machine will be replaced with a newer one sometime soon but we are waiting for confirmation Hope you enjoy this issue
