Articmaster Pilot Test Background:
OVERVIEW:
To verify the performance of the Articmaster HVAC/RefrigerationOptimization System, the Trane CorporationSacramento Division
performed a pilot installation on their own building. The pilot
installation took place on an existing Trane Voyager Packaged Rooftop
unit that independently services their Parts Department at their
Rocklin, CA office. Tranes in-house Voyager lead technician installed
the Articmaster Optimization System, performed data trending and
verified all of the Before and After results.

HVAC & ARTICMASTER EQUIPMENT :
The Pilot consisted of installing a single Articmaster (Model # TSA1-1/8U) and RMS-1 refrigerant
optimization device on an existing Trane Voyager 4-Ton Packaged HVAC system.

RESULTS:
Before (pre-Installation) data was taken over a period of 2-weeks
(5/11/115/25/11) with an industry accepted Data Logger. After (post-
installation) data was then taken over a period of 2-weeks (5/26/11
6/9/11). Results averaged 21.6% kWh reduction per-day.
PILOT RESULTS SUMMARY:
1.) 21.6% Amp reduction average
2.) 15.6% Colder air (reaches temperature set point faster / unit shuts off)
3.) 21.6% reduction in kWh (reduction in energy costs)
4.) 34% reduction in Head Pressure (extends life of the compressor)5.) 21.6% more capacity in the cooling system with no additional energy
ARTICMASTER BENEFITS:
1.) Substantial energy reductions / Operational cost savings
2.) Increased life expectancy of the HVAC system
3.) Process stability and capability improvements4.) Increased HVAC production rates without additional energy consumption
5.) Reduction in Carbon emissions (reduced kWh)

Articmaster Installation Summary
Region: San Jose, CA
Client: National Data Center
Facility Type: Data Center
Building Size: 18,000 Sft
Floor Space: 15,000
Utility Company: PG&E
Energy Savings Products: Articmaster & RMS-1
HVAC Equipment: (9) 20-Ton Liebert/ATS Systems
(2) Trane 10-Ton Systems, (1) Carrier 10-Ton System
(210-Tons Total)
ABOUT: Switch & Data operates (34) sites across North America specifically designed to house the servers their customers use to
aggregate and distribute data and digital media content.PROBLEM: Substantial and varying cooling load required. Facility optimization is controlled by capacity of HVAC system, typically
undersized. Internal heat generated by servers are the main source of the load that HVAC system is required to cool. HVAC systems
regularly fail due to the severe load that this mission critical facility creates. Facility was limited on the amount of power available
to the building, so the Articmaster was the only solution to increasing their cooling capacity, without any infrastructure costs.
SOLUTION/BENEFITS: The Articmaster Refrigerant Optimization System provided immediate and substantial reduction in head
Pressure, which lead to reduction in compressor amp draw. The Articmaster also created colder air temperatures which allowed
the system to reach set point and cycle off (shut off). Due to the substantial energy reduction from the Articmaster system, the
client was able to add another 20-ton HVAC System, which was previously not possible without a major renovation to mainelectrical panel, and an investment in a new larger back up diesel generator.
