project // houseclass // b2 designinstructor // brian mackay-lyonsspring 2010
the obejective of the semester was to design a house that was located on a 24’x 36’ lot in a close urban condition. using the slope of the site to raise the ground floor for privacy; the first floor is the primary public space and the house becomes more private with each level.

house drawingsproject // houseclass // b2 design & building technologyinstructor // brian mackay-lyons & emanuel jannaschspring 2010
after completing the initial concept and schematic design of the house it was inte-grated into the building technology course. construction details were developed for the primary complicated points in the design.

piazza san marco
project // case study piazza san marcoclass // b3 historyinstructor // maria navarosummer 2010
a study of urban context; models and drawings used to describe the piazza, its history and how it was used when it was created to how it is currently used by the city today.

sphereproject // sphere
class // b2 representationinstructor // Susan Molesky
spring 2010
the objective of this project was to learn about form thru 2-D and 3-D representation. us-
ing a plaster sphere as the primary form - the structure designed to hold it mimics its spheri-cal shape and properties and determines the
perspective of the audience.

stairs
project // stairsclass // b2 representationinstructor // Susan Moleskyspring 2010
the objective of this assignment was to inte-grate space with circulation. three spaces were to be connected by staircases; by changing the height and width of the stairs and the spaces throughout the design the mobility of thehuman body would be confined and create the experience.

The inspiration for Honey Comb came from my research of struc-tures in nature. I became particularly interested in structures created by other species.
honeycombproject // honeycomb
class // sculptureinstructor // nick wade
fall 2008
honey comb is 5’ x 5’ x 8” and welded together. the form of this structure was determined by
the manipulation of the center cell. all the cells dependent on the central form resulted in a
3-D object transforming into 2-D.

laneway house - case study
project // laneyway house - case studyclass // b2 designinstructor // brian mackay-lyonsspring 2010
through drawings and models i studied the laneway house by shimsutcliffe architects.
3
room in the cityproject // room in the city
class // b1 designinstructor // niall savage
fall 2009
room in the city was a group case study of the grand parade in halifax, ns. models and draw-
ings described the space and how it is used. this included the axis between the city hall and
the church, the layers that defined the space and circulation.
8
wheel
project // wheelclass // sculptureinstructor // nick wadespring 2009
inspired by the water wheel the objective of this project was to integrate the skeleton of a form with a skin.
9
saxophoneproject // saxophone
class // sculptureinstructor // nick wade
fall 2008
saxophone was a study of two different forms and the relationship they create when an
organic object is contained within the box.

spencers island - free lab
for the last two weeks of july 2010 ten stu-dents, including myself, and our instructor
worked on a design-build project in spencers island, nova scotia. the first week was spent
primarily observing, drawing and modeling the site and its surroundings.

after evaluating the site we determined the best location to build three separate shelters
was right beside what was previously existing.
in the second week the foundations were poured and two of the three shelters were clad. all three shelters are built on stilts; the two that
are located beside one another are joined by an outdoor bridge.

structural bay - building systems integration
project // structural bay - structural testingclass // b3 bsiinstructor // roland hudsonsummer 2010group members: ryan pendleton, jessica marcellus, olena chorney, samira rostami, kale harper and amanda wingenbachthe objective was to design the most efficient structure that could span 15m and could be built and tested at 1:5 scale. using the bicycle wheel as inspiration this structure was built with tent poles acting in compression and fishing wire hooked onto a bycycle hub acting in tension. it was then loaded with bricks to determine the total load it could carry.
