Experience Something Different COME TO THE TEXAS PANHANDLE – the last major geographic part of continental America to be colonized and one of the most peculiar and physically stunning parts of the American West.

DISCOVER Palo Duro – artist Georgia O’Keefe’s burning, seething cauldron, filled with dramatic light and color – a place where the skies are blue and the sunsets are unlike any on the continent.

EXPERIENCE AMARILLO OPERA – opera as you’ve never experienced it before – in the intimate setting of the Amarillo Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts rising from the simple majesty of the Texas High Plains.

VISIT Amarillo. CELEBRATE OPERA in the Texas Panhandle with a season of musical drama you’ll never forget. Only in Amarillo – only at AMARILLO OPERA!

Because life’s too short not to experience something different!

Amarillo Opera continues to surprise...a fine opera company is growing up in what feels like an unlikely city in the Texas Panhandle. When opera companies in major cities are struggling to stay afloat or, worse closing, the opera in Amarillo is stepping up in respect around the country.

Amarillo is hardly a major metropolitan city; it is only 14th in size in Texas. The success of Amarillo Opera demonstrates that opera can thrive anywhere, as long as there is a visionary director and a ready and appreciative audience to be found.

Andrew Scott DeJesseBetween Wind and WaterSIZE: W 44 3/4 x H 42 1/2 • MEDIUM: WATER COLOR, OIL

Andrew Scott DeJesse grew up in Marlboro,

New Jersey and received his BFA in Illustration

from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

After several years of working as an Art Director

in Pharmaceutical Advertising, he relocated to

Texas. The vastness and solitude of the Texas

landscapes made such an impression on Andrew that he felt compelled to

capture the truth and quiet beauty of the Southwest in his paintings.

Andrew’s works have been exhibited in several solo and group shows

and he was a 2007, 2009 & 2010 Hunting Art Prize finalist. His works can

be found in many private and corporate collections such as Texas Tech

University Health Sciences Center, Lyondell, Halliburton, Schlumberger

and National Oil Well.

Education and Community EngagementAmarillo Opera’s Summer Youth Initiative provides theatrical training and

performance opportunities to Texas Panhandle students for ten weeks throughout

the summer. Led by Amarillo Opera’s Artists-in-Training, these college-aged

youth mentors spend the summer teaching elementary and middle-school aged

students in our ARTS: an Alternative summer camps, assisting in the direction of

our annual Summer Youth Musical, presenting senior engagement programs and

performing operatic scenes programs to regional audiences.

Aimed at children 5-13, ARTS: an Alternative offers lessons and workshops in

visual arts, music, drama, dance, poetry and comportment – building self-esteem

and confidence in local youth.

Amarillo Opera once again produces the annual Summer Youth Musical in July,

2014. Aimed at ages 9-19, it is an invaluable training ground for young regional

singers. College aged artists are selected each summer to mentor youngsters

in the ARTS: an Alternative program and assist with the Summer Youth Musical.

Amarillo Opera annually distributes more than $40,000 in scholarships to these

talented students to help with their college educations. Your contributions help

support these and other education programs throughout the year.

CRUSH WINE BAR AND DELI

At the corner of 7th & Polk, you will find a lively patio, where people gather

to celebrate the workday’s end or meet before a downtown dining or opera

event. Inside is a cafe setting, filled with smells of savory tapas and small plate

selections from around the world. At the deli counter, the sight of artisan cheeses

and meats chosen to compliment the impressive and ever-changing wine by-

the-glass selection (over 50). On one side a charming marble bar, backed with

Italian made Enomatic wine dispense and preservation systems; on the other, an

enclosed, climate controlled wine shop displaying a vast, 300+ bottle selection

of wines for here or retail to go. There is a little something here for everyone to

fall in love with, including the hard-to-find selections you would be challenged to

uncover anywhere else between Dallas and Denver.

OHMS

Nestled in historic downtown Amarillo, OHMS Café fuses the soul of Santa Fe

with the heart of the Panhandle. Attracting artists, entrepreneurs, suits, scarves

and working stiffs, OHMS’s cozy and quiet smoke free atmosphere provides the

perfect ambiance for a delicious and intimate dining experience. It all began with

Mary Fuller’s delicious cinnamon rolls. From these highly sought after breakfast

goodies, Mary quickly earned herself a reputation. Soon, with the encouragement

of friends, she went into the catering business with her sister. “I was working an

office job at the time and catering on the side. I talked to Jonathan Early, the

original owner of OHMS, about letting us rent the kitchen. He said, ‘No, but I’ll sell

you the place.’ So, long story made short - I became the owner.”
