1 Welcome Center

Introductory Video

All teams will start the race by watching the video shown in the welcome center. Each team will have a handout with a series of 8 questions to answer while watching the video. The handout will be stored in the team’s folder and turned in at the conclusion of the race. The questions will be worth a total of 2 points each for a total of 16 points for this station. After viewing the film, teams will receive their first clue.

Children Play

Teams will have two challenges to complete at this station: 1-Ball Game 2-Games of Graces Teams can complete the challenges in any order they want, and can complete more than one at a time. Ball & Cup Game: Teams will have a choice in which tools they want to use to complete this challenge. There are two choices: 1-Wooden Ball and Cup Game-make one to move on 2-Make your own ball and cup game-get the ball in the cup five times to move on. Teams can pick, they can also switch their choices if they want to. Games of Graces: Teams must play “Games of Graces” and get three catches to complete this challenge. The entire team needs three catches, not each individual player Once the two challenges have been completed correctly, the team can receive their next clue.

Mardi Gras MyPlate Necklace

Each team will construct a Mardi Gras Bead necklace by reading a daily menu and stringing a certain color bead for each food group from menu. Vegetables on Menu-Green Bead Fruits on Menu-Red Bead Grains on Menu-Orange Bead Protein on Menu-Purple Bead Dairy on Menu-Blue Bead Teams must turn in the necklace in a plastic zippered bag inside of their team folder. Once the challenge is completed the team can receive their next clue.

4 Maison Olivier House-Kitchen

Ice Cream This station has two challenges to complete, homemade ice cream challenge and dairy worksheet challenge. Ice Cream Challenge: Teams will create a homemade ice cream treat. Teams will have to follow a recipe and measure ingredients to make ice cream. Once the ice cream is made teams can enjoy their treat. Dairy Worksheet Challenge: Teams will use the information provided at this station to correctly answer 5 questions about the dairy food group. Questions will be worth 2 points each for a total of 10 points. Once teams have completed both challenges, they must ring the dinner bell to receive their next clue.

Blue Dog Goes Healthy

Teams will create a blue dog healthy living scene in an original blue dog painting to honor the late George Rodrigue. Each team will be given a blank paper, glue, a blue dog, paint, and paint brush. The team must work together to create a healthy living scene. The team must use the blue dog somewhere in their painting, by gluing him in the artwork. Teams must take a team picture with their artwork before receiving their next clue. The station volunteer will take the picture. Once the team completes the challenge and takes a picture, they receive their next clue.

Day in the Life of the Acadian Child

There are two challenges at the station that depicts chores Acadian children used to have to perform on the homestead. Cotton Picking: Teams will have to seed the cotton bolls. Each team must fill a small plastic container with seeds to finish the challenge. Lavar: Teams must wash 3 pieces of clothing and hang it to dry. After completing both challenges, team can receive their next clue.

Great Garden Detective

There are 2 challenges at this station, Planting a Vegetable and Great Garden Detective Matching. Planting a Vegetable: Each team member will have to fill 3 planters with seeds. They must follow directions that are given at the station from the volunteer. After planting, the team member must write the name

of the vegetable on a marker and stick it into the plant. Great Garden Detective Matching Game: Each team will have to solve the mystery of which vegetable subgroup a vegetable belongs to. There will be 5 vegetables on the table. Using the matching worksheet in their team folder, the team will match the vegetable on the table to its correct vegetable subgroup. There will be vegetable subgroup explanations on the table that will help teams figure out the correct answers.

8 Concrete Loop in the front of the Acadian Cabin

Color Run

Teams must complete a “victory lap” color run before jumping on the finish rug. Along the lap, volunteers will be stationed to “color” the team members. Halfway through the lap, there will be a wheel that all teams must spin. The wheel may have extra points, congratulations, or road blocks. If extra points are earned a volunteer will give the team a token to turn in with their team folder. If the team gets a roadblock, the team must complete the roadblock, come back to the wheel spot and complete their color run lap.
