What is Roman?
• Offshore oil development is here for the long term – it’s time for operators to take a more holistic, regional approach.
• Existing site-specific approach is out of step with other aspects of offshore industry (e.g. 3D-4D seismic, 100% seafloor mapping)
• Meso-scaled monitoring and forecasting would optimize forecasting, operational planning and emergency/environmental response , better situational awareness

Concept
Regional infrastructure portion would consist of:• High resolution atmospheric modeling in a nested

and,• A minimum of four oceanographic buoys monitoring,
waves, currents and select meteorological parameters.

Roman Approach
• Oil developments collectively form an isolated, offshore community.
• Each installation collects and maintains it’s own silo of met/ocean data and generates it’s own operational forecasts – WHY??
• Treat the ‘production area’ as a meso-scaled zone sharing common met/ocean observation and reporting infrastructure – a regional oceanographic infrastructure.
• Collect data once – use many times without impacting data integrity , to the operational benefit of all.

Aviation Support
• An automated detailed 3-D aviation forecast accurate scheduling of helicopter arrivals /departures;
• Ability to depart a flight and timing its arrival offshore for a forecasted improvement (i.e. determining a launch window);
• Maintain better operational decisions throughout the night, in particular importance for scheduling POB.
• The risk index would include risks from waves, winds, icing and low visibility. The risk index would be made available as a forecast out to 72 hours and color coded green/yellow/red.
• Allow for optimum point-to-point routing for the minimization of fuel burned, allowing the helicopter to take better advantage of meteorological conditions

What is GeoWeather?
The GeoWeather service is an AMEC geographic weather data feed• providing timely and accurate meteorological observations as geospatial information;• delivered directly into the client’s ArcMap system via the internet;• displayed as overlays on client geographic data layers;• allows customers to have their own tailored internal weather forecasting system;• shows weather data for any given geographic location;• 24/7 meteorological and oceanographic support can be provided.
The GeoWeather data is derived by the AMEC weather forecast center;• from multiple global weather models;• with increased geographic data resolution;• providing hourly forecasts and cumulative forecasts;• customized data can be provided for specific client requirements;• higher resolution models can be produced for client-defined areas.
GeoWeather is the ability of the user to visualize the weather forecast within their existing Mapping applications thus taking the guesswork out of understanding the meaning or relevance of the weather forecast.
