One question we get pretty often is “How do I make money with my woodworking hobby?”Sure, selling a chair or a couple turnings can add a nice little padding to your bottom line, but people want to know how to cash in and start earning the big bucks instead of another starving artist.

The easy answer is to start adding a bunch of zeros to your price tag, but why start with such small potatoes? People are spending billions of dollars all across the country on sports stadiums, seemingly every day. It’s time we woodworkers got a piece of that action for ourselves, don’t you think?

Depending on what sport you’re trying to house, you might need up to 137,000 square feet of space for your construction, plus any space you want to build restaurants, parking lots and other amenities. Don't be lazy, everybody knows parking is where the real money is!

As you might imagine, you’ll need quite a bit of wood to start. If you built our ark or space station plans in the past, maybe it’s time to take those down and start over. After all, they’re so 2014, and you probably haven’t had much luck selling them. We’re in this game for the money, remember?

How do you build it? I went to my old, trusty, reliable CNC machine. CNC machines, more appropriately, I had a hundred of the things running 24/7 for a couple months making everything from chairs to stairs and bird proof siding. I know that might sound like a lot, but sometimes you’ve just got to spend money to make money. I’m in the process of putting together all 353,928 .TAP files together for you to download. They should be ready sometime in 2019.

In the end, I decided on creating a log cabin themed football arena, which, considering how expensive it is to heat and how cold it can get during football season in the state of Minnesota, was probably a bad idea. Take the weather into account when you’re building your piece.

In any event, you’ll figure it out. Then, all you need to do is slap a name on the thing and you’re good to go. If you play your cards right, you can earn a few shiny nickles just for the naming rights to the stadium. In fact, I sold mine to Woodworker’s Journal for a cool $1.36 billion dol-lars (to be paid over the next 473 billion years). Now, I’m sitting pretty on a yacht I built myself. I hope to see you on the waves some time!
