The Lodge provides a nurturing home-like environment where guests can retreat to private rooms or connect with others in common areas. Hope Lodge Dallas will be on the Baylor University Medical Center campus with easy access to all of the city’s cancer treatment centers. Hope Lodge Dallas will include: 50 guest suites for patients and caregivers Communal kitchen and living area 24-hour staffing and onsite parking Construction of Hope Lodge will begin in 2019. Help give hope a home in Dallas. The American Cancer Society Patient Navigator Program offers personalized support to help cancer patients and their caregivers stay on track with their treatment and care. A navigator is a specially trained staff person who works with the patient one-on-one and helps guide him or her through the cancer treatment process. The navigator identifies specific needs, provides information and proactively addresses barriers to receiving care. More than 5,798 area patients were served in 2018. The Patient Navigation Program provides: Three Site-based patient navigators at two North Texas public hospitals. Support and guidance to patients and caregivers Support in person and by phone The 2019 funding needs in North Texas for this program exceeds $150,000. Cancer patients often miss or forgo potentially life-saving treatments because they cannot afford transportation, are too ill to drive themselves, or lack family and friends to drive them. In 2018, local cancer patients received 10,000 rides, free of charge, to and from cancer-related appointments. The American Cancer Society meets the needs of area patients through: Rides provided by trained volunteers Bus and paratransit passes Vendor transportation (cabs and Lyft) Referrals to other community programs for additional transportation (e.g., grocery shopping, worship trips) The 2019 funding need in North Texas for paid transportation is $250,000. Cattle Baron’s Ball funds vital and cutting-edge research. Each year we offer supporters the opportunity to learn more about the work happening in Dallas through an annual “Progress in Cancer Research” Research Symposium. We also offer one-on-one interaction with researchers at on-site lab tours and presentations. Our 2018 Research Symposium presenters were: Puneeth Iyengar, MD, PHD - Unchecked Adipocyte Lipolysis and Tumor Progression in Cachexia Daniel Siegwart, PHD - A Functional Polyester Library for Enhanced and Selective miRNA Delivery Our funding needs for cancer research in 2019 will exceed $4 million in North Texas.
