Opportunities Await

Recent Travel Grants and Outreach Support Rebecca Lai received a travel grant to present her Harry Potter themed demonstration at MISTI-Con. Using J . K. Rowling’s series of Harry Potter books, which have incorporated many chemistry concepts, the presentation aims at introducing Harry Potter fans to the magic of Hogwarts that exists in our own world (aka science and technology). The main topics to be covered in the presentation include the chemistry of gold, the sorcerer’s stone and the elixir of life. Other topics such as invisible inks, plant science, and food chem-istry will also be discussed.

Suman Chakrabarty received a trav-el grant to attended and present a poster at the Gordon Research Con-ference in Organometallic Chemis-try, held in Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. This prestigious con-ference featured several thematic talks in cutting edge research happening in organometallic chemistry ranging from areas such as energy storage and devel-opment, computation in chemistry to metal-mediated catalytic processes.
