T he 12th annual Supima Design Competition is officially underway. Finalists from eight of the country’s top design schools all gathered in New York City at Pier 59 for an integral part of the competition’s pro- gram, the first fitting. This year’s eight talented finalists include: Gina Guo, Drexel University; Isabel Haijan, Rhode Island School of Design; Yoohyeon Kim, Savannah College of Art and Design; Shuxian Kong, Kent State University, Andrew Kwon, Parsons School of Design; Linh La, Academy of Art Univer- sity; Ilene Martoseno, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising; and Ishwari Vijh. Fashion Institute of Technology. “We are so proud of this year’s group of finalists. They are all extremely talented and are bringing such creativity and innovation to their Supima collections”, says Buxton Midyette, VP of Marketing and Promotions for Supima. The fitting is an opportunity for each finalist to show the current progress of their collections to Midyette and renowned women’s wear designer Bibhu Mohapatra. Mohapatra has been a part of the Supima Design Competition for the past five years acting as a mentor to the finalists, giving them invaluable insight and advice on their collections. It was an exciting, stressful and exhausting day for the finalists, painstakingly going over each piece of their collections, taking notes and making adjustments. It was also filled with video, photography and media interviews. The long day ended on a festive note with an intimate cock- tail reception that saw many of the competition’s past finalists attend to congratulate this year’s group and lend their support. Once again this year’s Supima Design Competition will run during New York Fashion week and the finalists will unveil their collections during a runway show on September 5th at Pier 59. I n 2017 Nicolas Shuster was visiting New York City doing what most visitors do... shop. It was when

he got back to his hotel and tried on his swag that he soon realized that all t-shirts are not created equal. Although the same size and style, each t-shirt he purchased fit differently. Deep down Shuster knew that the one common denominator to a favorite tee was the fit, so he set out the change the status quo and launched OneTee.

Since the ultimate tee starts with the fabric, Shuster was determined to find the perfect fabric for his brand. After researching over 200 samples from 10 countries, he chose American-grown Supima cotton to build the foundation of OneTee. But it doesn’t stop there; the direct-to-consumer brand enhances the t-shirt buying experience by letting the customer de-sign the perfect fit. Visitors to OneTee’s website are in full control picking the color, neckline, hem style and body. This ensures that each tee that’s manufactured will have the perfect fit.

Craftsmanship is another key element to the brand’s success. Each tee is crafted with pride in Canada. Small batch production ensures that One-Tee’s collection of premium t-shirts are made to the stringent specifications of the company’s founder. Each tee features mobilon elastic shoulders, a reinforced neckline and is enzyme washed before cutting to give each tee and extra-soft hand.

W hen famed UK based department store, Harrods, looked to revamp its luxury home department, it wanted to elevate the conversation of what home fashion could be.

So it was no surprise when the retailer tapped longtime brand partner, Peter Reed as an anchor. Known for their high-end bedding collec-tions, the Lancashire, UK-based company pulled out all the stops to open its first International Concept shop that features all Supima-made products. Featuring the entire Peter Reed line of sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers and bedding accessories, each and every piece of the collection is crafted with American-grown, premium, Supima cotton. The internationally known bedding brand also uses the concept shop

to offer their bespoke services that are offered to interior designers and used in super yachts, private jets and villas.

Sean Clayton, General Manager for Peter Reed recently sat down with industry trade magazine, Home Textiles Today to speak about its new concept shop and the brand’s use of Supima cotton. “We started to use Supima around three years ago and one of the main reasons apart from the quality was the fact that you had full traceability of the product,” he told the magazine.

The Harrods concept shop is the first of many planned by the company. Peter Reed looks to expand its global footprint and open additional shops in the 37 countries where its currently selling its products.
