1936 – Chartered as Asheville-Biltmore College and received accreditation 1957 – First two-year college to receive state funding1961 – Moved to present location and first African American student enrolls

1927 – Founded as Buncombe County Junior College1929 – Merged with Asheville City College to become Biltmore Junior College

remind the institution of where it has been an where it can go in the future.

Integrative Liberal

Studies Every student at UNC Asheville begins their education with a core curriculum, or the Integrative Liberal Studies (ILS)

ILS combines and overlaps the unrelated disciplines of the humanities, arts natural and socials sciences to prepare students for any career or future endeavors that they may pursue. (UNCA, 2013)
