Two of the main focuses of the American Indian Student Leadership (AISL) club is to bring awareness

to Native cultures and reconnect with our own heritages.

Every November there is an opportunity for the AISL to further both goals.

I propose that we prepare for American Indian History Month by

• Utilizing the time we have in the Spring and Summer semesters to

• Collaborate on creating cultural and historical overviews of our individual tribes.

• Create an overview of Utah’s history with the tribes within its boarders

• Expand territorial understanding of the tribes through localized maps of our tribes.

How do we perceive America?

Is this perception correct?

Does it represent all of America?

This map represents about half of the reservations/tribal trust lands within the United States. The over 500 different reservations and trusts could not fit on this map.

It is shocking to see how many reservations are in the United States.

Most Americans don’t realize they have nations all around them.

They also only have a basic understanding of the history and culture that those nations represent.

However this map is cluttered and hard to navigate.

• This Localized map would better suit our needs

• It is less cluttered

• Easily absorbed

• Easily to teach off of

• Most important: it is relatable to Utahans
