executive committee). Plan is to update and include newsletters, minutes, information on honors & awards
• E-mail: [email protected]– Used and useful.
• Fall 05 Newsletter
Position Statement
• PPS#30 “U.S. Radioisotopes Supply”– Update should be approved this meeting– Update is the result of the 2004 ANS President’s
Special Committee on Isotope Assurance and forthcoming position paper
– IRD Chair served on the committee
Participation with Other Professional Societies
• National Organization of Test, Research, and Training Reactors (TRTR) - representing nearly 50 research reactors from government, industry, and universities throughout the U.S. and worldwide.– At least one session at each national meeting is devoted to
research reactors and is sponsored or co-sponsored by IRD.
• Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) – promotes best approaches and procedures for implementing all aspects of nuclear materials management– Participation at Safeguards Topical Conf.
Society Leadership
• Exec. Comm. has > 50% participation at national meetings (required for quorum)
• Some participation in PDC efforts
• Full participation in NPC efforts
Non-Meeting Publications
• The IRD does not actively stimulate contributions to non-meeting publications, however, members do contribute papers to the technical journals.
• IRD Chair contributed to the special committee forthcoming position paper on isotope assurance
Professional Development
• IRD has not supported any professional development workshops or activities
Scholarships
JAMES R. VOGT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
• Established in 1986 to recognize outstanding students at U.S. Universities and colleges entering the field of Radioanalytical Chemistry and its applications.
• Students must be engaged or proposing to undertake graduate or undergraduate research in Radioanalytical Chemistry or its applications.
• $2500 award• Currently funded at $28K, IRD Exec. Comm. has voted to
devote future topical meetings income towards endowing the scholarship.
• BMD is a co-sponsor.
Peer Awards
• Radiation Science & Technology Award– recognizes outstanding creative applications of
radiation sciences and engineering principles– $2000 award, currently funded at $37K
• Mishima Award– recognizes outstanding contributions in research and
development work on nuclear fuels and materials.– IRD co-sponsors this award with the Materials
Science and Technology Division
