Are you an undergraduate or graduate media arts student who is also interested in art, history, or science? Would you like to pursue a career in New Mexico’s expanding cultural industry? If so, there is a unique new service learning program that might be perfect for you.
AmeriCorps CulturAl teChnology progrAm hAndbook
Beginning fall semester 2010, AmeriCorps funding was granted to the Media Arts Program at New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA).

Graduate or undergraduate Highlands Media Arts students with 12 credit hours or less remaining towards their degree will be able to apply for half-time or minimum-time placements. Recent graduates of the program will be eligible for placements that are half-time or full-time. Here are some of the host institutions participating in our program:

What will AmeriCorps Cultural Technology Interns do?

Interns will serve at local museums and other professional settings where they will design and produce exhibit graphics, videos, interactives, websites, publications, and collateral materials and participate in all aspects of the process of organizing exhibitions. In addition, all interns will be required to register for the Professional Internship Mentoring course each semester of their placement.

Interns will gain a deep knowledge and understanding of career opportunities in Cultural Technology, the emerging field at the intersection of new digital media and cultural content. In addition, they will gain important skills from their supervisor mentors, faculty advisors, and coursework. Interns will acquire the hands-on experience and self-confidence they need to enter the professional workforce.
Part time $9,750 and $2,675 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award
Minimum Time $3,250 and $892 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award
Living Allowance
Full time $19,500 and $5,350.Segal AmeriCorps Education Award

Full-time interns will also receive health care, interest-free student loan deferments and child care.
How is the program structured?There are 4 components in the AmeriCorps Cultural Technology Program and each component has a different start and end date.
October 1- April 30 Fall semester, part time
October 1-August 31 One year, full time
February 1- August 31 Spring semester, part time
May 15-August 31 Summer, minimum time

4. Create a profile (steps 1-4) make sure you indicate that you will accept emails from this system.
5. You will receive an email from recruitment, follow the link and create a username and password
6. Login to your account to complete the application
7. Select create application and complete steps 1-8

Interns will receive coaching on how to search for and land jobs, including using the AmeriCorps Cultural Technology Internship Program website’s “Job Opportunities” sub-page. The sub-page will include a listing of current Cultural Technology-related jobs and links to job opportunities posted from local and national employers.
you are eligible to receive an education award paid in the form of a voucher for education expenses, after you successfully complete service.The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award must be used within seven years of the date you finish your service, unless you apply for and receive an extension prior to the end of your seventh year.
