Little Bigfoot Elephant is the newest member of the "revised" Little Bigfoot Gang!Oh how happy I am with this one. I'm loving all of them but this one makes mesmile the most. The new Little bigfoots are between 8 and 9 inches tall. That's usingRed heart Comfort (or super saver) yarn and a 4.5mm hook. The last series I designed in 2012 were between 5 and 6 inches tall.
Written patterns and video tutorials now available in this new 2014 series:

Read me ~> Work in continuous rounds, do not join. I used Red HeartSuper Saver and also Red Heart Comfort yarn with a 4.50 mm hook. If youcrochet more on the loose side then use a smaller hook so you don't getgaps and stuffing showing through the stitches.
Read me ~> How to read the rows: Each row has a sequence as givenbelow. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1scthen 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to theend of that particular row. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is thenumber of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.
Read me ~> It's a good idea to add in a marker at the end of row 2 andmove that marker at the end of every row. I just use a short length of yarnand pull it through the last stitch I put in at the end of every row.
Supplies:any color of Red Heart Super Saver or Red Heart Comfort 100% acrylic yarn 4.5mm hook *use a smaller hook if you see gaps in your stitches blunt end yarn needle for sewing sharp end needle if adding French Knot eyes scissors100% polyester stuffing felt, paint, buttons, or yarn for eyes (7.5mm are in one of the elephants pictured) felt for tonguefabric fusion (fabric glue) for gluing on the felt

1014) 1sc in each st for 5 rows sl st and f/o leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff and shape foot and stuff leg *For the toes, read assembly section below
Tail: ch 7 *start with a long starting tail that you can sew into the body f/o leaving a long tail for sewing. Loop the yarn tail around your finger then weave theother end of the yarn tail in and out along the chain to the slip knot you started offwith then back up the chain and loop around your finger again. Repeat 2 more times. You should have 3 loops at one end of the chain when you are done. Cut the loops andrun the yarn needle through each yarn strand to fray them.
Assembly: If you assemble the doll in the order I give you then you will not have to worry somuch about centering the different parts as much.
1) Sew the arms on directly under the head2) sew on the legs. How you sew the legs on is up to you. I wanted this elephant to bein a standing position so I sewed them on in a way the doll stands up. Turn the dollupside down and pin the legs in place then whip stitch the top edge of the legs to thebody. View the video on how to do this. (Time noted in the video order list above thepattern)3) add in toes. Wrap yarn around the front of the foot in 3 different sections. 4) sew on tail 5) sew on the ears. The part that you whip stitched together sits on the 8th and 9throw. Pin them in place before sewing them in helps. But again, view the video for tipson sewing this part. 6) sew on trunk just above the 11th row. Then mouth get sewn right under the trunk.Glue in felt for the tongue7) Add in the eyes about the 9th row with about 6 stitches between them

Thank you, thank you a million times for sharing the patterns for these adorablecreatures. Since my shoulder operation, with my arm in a rigid sling for 3 weeks, I'vebeen dreaming of which craft items I'll tackle first when my arm is "set free". Well, the Little Bigfoot family have just shot to the top of my list! Lots of love

These little animals are adorable. I will be a great grandmother in February and I amstarting to crochet all the animals. My first monkey had some mistakes, but I amhoping my little pig will be better. It seems to be going smoother. I really appreciateyou sharing your patterns. It goes to show that you are not selfish.

Hey Sharon,Im really kind of new to crocheting so this may be a dumb questions. If I wanted toincrease the size of this animal other than just changing the size of the hook, is itpossible to say double the stitches or do each step twice? My sister just had a babyand the room is decorated in elephants. I wanted to make this for her is a wholebunch of sizes. One may be 3 ft tall....Is that possible? Thanks

Hi there. Have you tried following the video? I go through every row in thevideo. Or if you tried that and you're still out by one stitch then don't worrytoo much, just crochet 2tog before you get to the marker and that willeliminate one st. Hope that helps

Hi Sharon, I love your patterns but how do you do them so neatly? I did theelephant and it looks all messed up. I can't seem to sew it on properly and now helooks like he's had a stroke. Also, my stitches are way too tight but when I use abigger hook they have holes. I'm from Germany and our yarn sizes are different. Iworked with yarn for a 45 needle but used a size 3 needle to not have any holes.Does it work better with thicker yarn? Also, when I sew the arms and legs on, itmesses up the stuffing (it gets all lumpy) All the very best, Katy
Reply
Sharon Ojala March 22, 2015 at 9:21 AM
Hi Katy,
I use a worsted weight yarn, view this Yarn Weight Chart and with that Iuse different crochet hook sizes from a 3mm to a 5.5mm hook, pleaseview this Hook Conversion Chart I believe what is causing the mess with your sewing is the stuffing you areusing. I use 100% polyester stuffing that is made for toys and pillows. It'svery soft and springy. When I bring my yarn needle through my amigurumiit glides through and doesn't pull any stuffing with it. I have in the pastused a stuffing that was a bit course and it made my amigurumi lumpywhen I sewed it together. I hope that has helped!

It does!!! I am sure this is the problem!!! Thank you so much! I've also used thicker yarn and a bigger needle now and it looks waybetter! Thanks a million! :)PS: One more question, I saw little styrofoam balls in the shop the otherday, could I use them as stuffing too?
Sharon Ojala March 23, 2015 at 9:43 AM
Since they are hard you wouldn't be able to shape them but they would beok if they stuffed one part completely, like a foot and they took up all thespace inside the yarn.

The bunny I made with Red Heart Comfort yarn is about 15 inches tall andthe LBF elephant is a lot smaller but if you made the elephant holding 2strands of yarn together it should be the right size to fit the clothing. Hopethat helps :)

what was the name you used when sending the gift?
gift giving isn't suppose to make one feel bad and it is never my intentionto make another human feel bad.. I always just assume people are grateful when they pass by here or myfacebook/youtube or wherever they find the patterns so if I have appearedungrateful to you, my apologies.
I do have a thank you on the donation button itself. And also at thebottom of each post I express my gratitude. As a practice I don't sendemails to paypal email addresses. I just have never done that unlesssomeone gives their return email inside the paypal note.
If you would kindly tell me your real name you used in the paypal I couldreturn an email.

Hi Alissa!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write, I really appreciate it. I'mso happy you are enjoying crochet and like my patterns, that means awhole lot to me!
Keep up the great work, 11 yrs old, wow!! You are a smart girl and you will never be bored when you can make thingswith your own hands. I love to make things. The great thing about crochet is you can bring itanywhere, so if you're stuck in a car for a long time you can crochet! Or ifyou're waiting at an appointment you can crochet. I do it all the time and itmakes the time go by much faster :)
Happy crocheting!! Sharon Ojala

I fell in love with this little elephant. I will be making him in white, and making 'SteamPunk' clothing and accessories for him. 'Jules Verne' style. I will offer him as a prizein the unsolvedmysteries.com Coffee House contest in October or November...ofcourse there will be a humorous backstory...I will credit you with the basic pattern. Thanks for sharing your awesome talent.

Oops! I just purchased a great big ball of Bernat Baby Sport.. I didn't realize itwasn't the right ply for the project. If you were using this particular yarn, what sizecrochet hook would you use? I know this will be a smaller elephant than anticipated, but that's okay.

any ply will work really but for the size of elephant I got then I put in thesuggested yarn and hook size. I just googled Bernat Baby Sport and itcalls for a size G/6 which is a 4mm. If you start to see gaps in your stitchesjust switch to a smaller hook. Have fun!

Hi! First of all, thank you so much for your amazingly cute recipe!!
Second, I have made the elephant and I'd like to make a bigger version, so I'vedecided to try on hooks size 1012 mm. Can you recommend a type of yarn, specificsearch words or a website that helps finding big yarn? I have been googling withoutmuch luck, possibly because I am fairly new to the crocheting adventure. I live inDenmark and generally use webshops for my yarn purchase, but this time I amstuck as I normally find the yarn first and then choose the hook, so can you givesome tips on going to opposite way? So far I've been reading all the little labels onamazon/ebay searches, but I am hoping there's a better way?
Thank you so much!! Sarah

I show how to make amigurumi bigger right here and you will need a biggerhook for this method Easy Way To Enlarge Amigurumi also here is a handychart. I use the magic ring but it's just personal preference. Many people like thechain 2 method so I just leave that up to the individual. Thanks for asking:)

it's all in the written pattern plus in the video. You must be overlookingthose somehow
Danielle March 6, 2016 at 8:38 PM
So when I'm making the ears on step 6 do I chain 2 and complete the rowI'm new to crochet
Sharon Ojala March 6, 2016 at 11:51 PM
ch2 then 1sc in next st, repeat that, ch2 then 1sc in next st, repeat againand again until you have 7st left in the row. It's shown in the video if this doesn't make sense.

Thank you! Thank yiu! Thank you for the cutest Little Bigfoot Elephant pattern...andthe others as well! Now my gift for the baby boy that's due n 6 weeks iscomplete...afghan, cap and Little Bigfoot Elephant. Being that it's for a newborn baby, I changed a few things to make it child friendly.#1 I eleminated the pipe cleaner completely. We can't have that sweet babystratchjng his face, can we? #2 Instead of buttons or safety eyes, I embroideredthem on with black thread. #3 Last, but not the least, I crocheted the red tonguerather than gluing a piece of red felt.
I wish I could attach a picture, he's just so adorable!
Thank you again!

Hello Sharon, I have made several of you amigurumi animals and everyone lovesthem, including myself. I am working your elephant right now and I have done thearm pattern 3 times and I keep coming up with 8 stitches in row 5, the writtenpattern says there should be 9 stitches. Is there a mistake or am I just missingsomething?

Sheila Travis March 23, 2016 at 3:08 PM
Sharon, I am so sorry! I just realized that I was missing a stitch in row 5 of the armand once I put it in, it came to 9 stitches.

I have made this little elephant and it is exactly like the picture. Are you sure youfollowed the pattern exactly?

Sharon Ojala March 23, 2016 at 3:57 PM
Shelia, sometimes they follow the wrong pattern altogether and then getupset. I have 2 different elephant patterns, the other one is quite smallerthan this one. Hopefully she's figured out what the issue is. Thanks fortrying to help :)
Happy crocheting!
