Seller Insight I bought the house in 2005 and back then it’s fair to say it was a rather underwhelming 1960s family home,” says the owner. “It was very basic in terms of its design, the rooms were all quite

pokey and it wasn’t at all conducive to modern family life, so four years ago I decided to embark upon a major project of refurbishment.

“The whole process took just over a year to complete and during that time I’d say that 98% of the house was rebuilt. It was extended to greatly increase the square footage, the layout was completely altered, all the windows were replaced, it was rewired and re-plumbed and I was able to incorporate modern technology such as under-floor heating, a Sonos sound system, electric blinds on every window and top-of-the-range appliances throughout the kitchen, which all combine to greatly enhanced the general living experience.”

“I’ve always had a passion for interior design so I’ve put a lot of time, money and effort into getting the whole look and feel of the place just right,” continues the owner. “I’ve gone for a very modern and very minimalistic design throughout and I’ve used a very pale, neutral colour palette and incorporated lots of glass, both of which really enhance the feeling of light and space. I’ve also introduced beautiful features such as a modern glass fireplace that sits right in the middle of the open-plan dining-and-living space, and a stunning central staircase with glass balustrades the leads up to a galleried landing. However the most impressive and perhaps the most unusual feature is the large terrace – complete with under-floor heating and two stunning cascading water features – that leads out via bi-folding doors from the kitchen and creates an almost seamless connection with the outside space. It’s absolutely gorgeous and we can now sit out and enjoy the garden whatever the weather, creating the feeling of being on holiday all year round. We very much enjoy entertaining and traditionally every Easter we hold a huge party with over 70 family and friends attending. With the bi-folding doors opening up right across the back of the house to meet with the beautiful terrace, we have an enormous sense of space and comfort even with this number of guests.

“I grew up in Edgbaston and I’ve stayed because it’s a place that has so much to offer,” says the owner. “In one direction there’s the Hagley Road, which boasts a superb array of shops and amenities, in the other direction is Five Ways and in the other is the lovely village of Harborne. Everything is within walking distance, including some of the best schools in the area.”

“I wanted the whole house to be outstanding, so the attention to detail that features in the main living areas is mirrored in the bedrooms and bathrooms,” says the owner. “It’s particularly evident in the master suite, which incorporates a beautiful big bedroom, a dressing room and an en suite complete with a steam shower.”

“I designed this house from scratch and it’s everything – and perhaps more – that I hoped it would be,” says the owner. “It’s totally unique in so many ways and I’ve no doubt that its new owners will be extremely happy here.”
