LIVING THINGS

CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING THINGS

• They are born from other living things.• They grow.• They reproduce (they have offspring).• They die at the end of their life cycle.

LIFE PROCESSES OF LIVING THINGS

• NUTRITION: Living things need food to live and grow.

• SENSITIVITY: Living things use their senses to react in the world around them.

• REPRODUCTION: Living things are born from the same species.

REMEMBER!

• NUTRITION• SENSITIVITY• REPRODUCTION

CLASSIFYING LIVING THINGS INTO KINGDOMS

Living things are classified into groups called KINGDOMS

• THE ANIMAL KINGDOM

• THE PLANT KINGDOM

• THE FUNGI KINGDOM

• THE BACTERIA KINGDOM

• OTHER SIMPLE ORGANISMS KINGDOM

ANIMAL KINGDOM

• Animals are multicellular organisms.

• They eat other living things.

• Most can move around.• There are two main

groups: VERTEBRATES (they have a spine); INVERTEBRATES (they don’t have a spine)

PLANT KINGDOM• Plants are multicellular

organisms.• They cannot move

around.• They use sunlight and

substances from soil and air to make food.

• There are two kinds of plants: PLANTS WITH FLOWERS and PLANTS WITHOUT FLOWERS.

FUNGI KINGDOM

• They can be unicellular or multicellular.

• They cannot move around.

• They eat the remains of other living things.

• Yeast, mould and mushrooms are in this group.

TWO SIMPLE KINGDOMS

• There are two more kingdoms made up of very small and simple organisms.

• Most of them are unicellular organisms.

CELLS

All cells have:a) NUCLEUS: it organizes

how a cell works.

b) CYTOPLASM: it’s the liquid that surrounds

the nucleus.c) ORGANELLES: parts of

the cell that have different functions.

d) MEMBRANE: it’s the wall that surrounds the cell.

Now it’s time for you to study.Don’t forget to do the online

activities!
