Bennets Yard, Whitstone, Holsworthy, Devon. EX22 6UG
01288 341111 / 07966 268240 A family run feed business, UFAS Assured, producing high
quality Dairy, Beef and Sheep feeds in Bulk, 600kg tote bags and 20kg bags. Collected or delivered. Tipped or blown.
April 2020
Covid-19 - We want to make everyone aware of proce-
dures we have implemented to safeguard our staff, our cus-
tomers, their families and for the continued efficient opera-
tion of our business and yours over this difficult period.
Farm visits – we will only visit farms at the customer’s re-
quest and after making an appointment. We will come for
outdoor meetings with good separation, don’t be afraid to
ask if you need advice or help with anything feed or nutrition
related.
Visitors to the mill & office – It is still very much business
as usual. We would like to thank the vast majority of custom-
ers for their cooperation with the increased biosecurity
measures we put in place over the last 2 weeks. Operations
have been very busy but smooth . In order to provide even
more peace of mind to customers visiting our site for collec-
tions we have recently added some additional measures to
enable total isolation within your vehicle. The new protocol is
as follows.
• Ideally, order in advance on 01288 341111
• Upon arrival park in one of the collection bays
• Remain in your vehicle at all times, someone will
assist you from a safe distance
• Once loaded there will be no paperwork to ex-
change, it will be forwarded by email or post.
• No payments are being accepted on site. BACS
details are on all our invoices or you can use tele-
phone card payments.
We also remind customers at this time that we have an eco-
nomic delivery service for bulk and bagged feed which would
reduce the risk of exposure for vulnerable groups or those in
regular contact with vulnerable family members.
Deliveries - We are advising customers to look at their order
volume, and if possible, increase the tonnage to decrease
the frequency of visits to farm. Bulk deliveries can be under-
taken unassisted. Bag deliveries will need someone present
to drive the unloading machinery, but we ask that a safe dis-
tance is maintained from the driver. All paperwork will come
electronically. Small volume bag drops with the van have
ceased whilst attendance at markets is restricted.
Mill operation – Currently we have no indication of any sup-ply chain problems. There are adequate stocks of our major raw materials in our store or at the docks. A number of con-tingency plans are in place should we suffer from severe staff shortages. It is our firm intention that operations and feed availability will remain largely unaffected there is no need to panic buy or carry large stocks.
Coronavirus - keeping you safe and keeping you supplied
Bagged feed pricing policy change
In order to help customers safely stay on their farms
from 1st April we are pricing all tote bagged feed &
pallets of at least 30x20kg bags inclusive of delivery.
For customers currently receiving deliveries you will
notice the complete removal of all haulage charges.
(mileage limit applies)
For customers who normally collect it is an opportunity
to take advantage of the inclusive delivery service.
We will remain open for collections if you need feed
urgently but there will no longer be any financial
incentive to visit the mill to collect. The aim is to cut
travelling off farm by customers and risk to both
customers and our staff.
We like to be transparent, 20kg bags remain the same price
but tote bags will increase by £12. We would also urge
customers to order a volume to last them at least three
weeks to cut down on visits at this difficult time.
Prices are for 20kg bags collected or
full pallets delivered.

This rumen enhancement technology, Panatec, acts to reduce the risk of acidosis in dairy cows and beef cattle which is known to increase the risk of Negative Energy Balance (NEB) and lameness. It also aids in improving growth rates and feed effi-ciency in growing and finishing cattle.
After strong research results in Ireland Rumenproof is currently being evaluated on the dairy herd at Harper Adams University.
Healthy rumen function is what we all strive for and this looks like it may be a game-changing tool for managing milk solids and feed efficiency.

Commodity market update
23/03/20 There is only one story.
Currency.
The pound has devalued against the dollar by 15 cents
(12%).
Against the Euro 12 cents (10%).
This seems to be in response to the scale of government
spending/borrowing promised to alleviate hardship for
businesses and individuals.
It would seem likely that other countries will have to incur
similar programmes of economic support but for now we
have currency that doesn't buy as much abroad and
suddenly UK cereals are export competitive again pushing
UK prices higher.
Cereals Commodity traders have been busy this month, investing a
lot of money liquidated out of equities and generally
overeacting like usual, but futures now look to have
peaked for the time being. Meanwhile ex farm trading
levels have been fairly stable didn’t drop when the futures
did but up a touch recently.
Proteins
Distillers - Imported EU Wheat distillers are an
extremely sought after quality product spot availability is
often poor currently not being quoted so supply is short. If
there was any it would be up £45/t
Rapemeal has gained £45/t on the back of soya.
Soya - Soyameal has some availability issues at source
and with the currency problem we have seen prices up over
£70/t
Wheat Gluten. Currency related price gains
Fibres
Sugarbeet UK sugarbeet remains withdrawn from the
market. There is a little material on offer for the summer
but it is beginning to look scarce and expensive. Imported
10mm pellets up to over £190/t
Soya Hulls - remain scarce and even more expensive
due to exchange rate. Prices are high all summer with a
slight dip before next winter.
NIS - Due to its high NDF content and the effectiveness in
maintaining rumen function in low fibre rations NIS may
have a bigger role in grazing dairy rations this year. Due to
the high cost of sugarbeet and soya hulls.
Wheatfeed Currently supplies are tight and prices rising,
which is normal for this time of year. Spring prices aren’t
exactly cheap but in comparison to other similar
commodities look reasonable in today’s market.
Molasses Currency and competition from bioethanol producers has
pushed prices upwards and set to climb even higher come
May for the summer run.
There is a universal picture of steeply rising
commodity prices. Some of it will be reactionary
but some will persist.
Tamar Milling April feed prices are a tough call
but will remain unchanged. We have just about
enough forward bought raw material to keep
prices where they are. Our Summer cover is
good too, albeit a touch above current values.
Should sales volumes remain at the current high
level we may have to review mid month.
Tote bags prices will go up to include free
delivery (see page one)
