MusicBox Studio Monthly Report Month/ Year: November 2012 Studio Location: Santa Barbara West
Studio Director: Taylor Hurtado In-‐Studio Highlights This has been a fun month in the studio. We've had some cool songs and projects being worked on, some still in the works and some done and entered in the Notes for Notes songwriting competition. Adriel H. and I entered an original hip-hop track called "Fear," and he tied for 1st place. Congrats Adriel!!!! In other news we just got our new Mac up and running and things are going great!!! We are still in the process of transferring files from the old computer to a hard drive then from there, to the new Mac so, some of the material from this last month will have a delayed upload date. Instrumental Instrumentally there has been a lot going on lately. The Notes Band got together on a Wednesday and began learning a new tune. This one’s called " When my train pulls in " by Gary Clark Jr. It's rocking like the Black Keys and Hendrix but, bluesy like Albert Lee!!! We jammed out the song and did a live recording so the kids could get a feel for what they sound like in comparison to the original and they were proud of themselves. Recording Here is 7 year old Lilo's original song https://soundcloud.com/notesfornotes/lilos-song Here is a link to a video of Adriel working in the studio on a song for the "Money Matters" song writing competition https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151136394107536 More footage will be uploaded later after it has been transferred from the old computer. Outreach/ Outside Collaborations I attended the New Noise Digital music conference November 8-10th and discussed Notes for Notes with various people to spread the word about us. Also, see Jaan’s Outreach Report for details about collaborations with other local agencies and schools. We've had four visits from our Carpinteria Boys & Girls Club members and have had the chance to start helping them explore the recording process and singing some of their favorite songs like, "Rumor has it " by Adele. The studio has also seen some visits from a group of kids on Probation who are looking for more musical experiences and positive outlets. While they're in the studio we play pre-recorded beats and let them sing and rap about whatever they want, allowing them to express themselves in a positive environment.
