Autumn 2012
East Anglia
15_East_Anglia_v2.indd 1 17/09/2012 14:14
The fi rst quarter of the year saw some very positive activity, with plenty of new instructions and good levels of applicant enquiries. However, the recent gloomy weather and the even gloomier headlines regarding the eurozone caused activity to drop off somewhat. Buyers are sitting on the fence, waiting to see what will happen, but we are experiencing a later-than-usual surge in activity as families want to be in their new home before the start of the Autumn term.
Prices are falling gradually, so sensible pricing and a good marketing strategy are essential. We recently took on a period house that had been on the market with three different agents for 15 months and sold it in just two weeks. How? Primarily it was due to a realistic price, but we also produced a much better brochure with high-quality photographs. This professional and detailed approach made all the difference.
Carl Eastwood, Partner Eaton Chase, NorwichNorfolk NR4
One of the fi nest houses within the sought-after area of the city called the ‘Golden Triangle’. The house was built in the 1930s, constructed from Italian grey brick with cherry brick dressings under a hipped roof. We received great interest in the property, with enquiries from local, national and international buyers. The property was sold to a buyer who was living in Asia and viewed the house on our National Open House Day last autumn.

‘The 12-month outlook for the UK property market is muddled. It’s key for mortgage providers to support the main “engines” of the market – fi rst-time buyers and mid-market – through greater liquidity and affordability. Our view is that, although personal debt needs to be contained and reduced, the lending costs that are currently throttling the market will start to soften.’Stephanie McMahon, Head of Research

The Old Rectory in Swardeston. My grandmother lived there when she was in service to the Rev Cavell, whose daughter was Edith Cavell – a nurse executed by the Germans for helping soldiers from all sides to escape in the First World War. I still have a wooden handkerchief box that Edith gave to my grandmother.
