President’s Message
It gives me much pleasure in giving you this president’s message. We had a very exciting and busy time last
year. We celebrated our 100 years of formation of the A. P. & H. Society at last year’s show by having a
street parade that concluded on the main oval Saturday morning. A large number of our previous show girls
attended the parade and stayed for our Saturday luncheon. They all showed the sparkle that helped them win
Miss Show Girl.
We had fireworks at the show for the first time on the Friday night and I am sure that everyone enjoyed them.
The fireworks finished up with a ‘100’ being formed by sparklers which I thought was very special.
In May we held a centenary dinner and invited our committee members and all sponsors of the show. This
was very well supported with 85 guests attending the night. We handed out 14 life memberships to well
deserving members of the Show Society.
Let’s hope all this interest and positive energy keeps flowing through to future shows. We have a few projects
in mind and have applied for grants to help us with these projects. We are hoping to publish a book for our
100th
show, showing the history of those 100 years.
As president my main concern, or function as I see it, is to keep the show relevant to our younger generation.
If we can keep the interest of the younger generation hopefully we can keep the Cohuna Show continuing.
While you enjoy this show please spend a few moments thinking about how we can improve it and pass on
those thoughts to any of our committee. If you would like to join our committee you are most welcome. Our
meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Historical Society Centre. If you can spend a few
hours helping at the show please let us know. Bring on the show.
Regards,
Karyn Peace, President 2012
