Polyscope: about us
Polyscope is the world’s leading producer and supplier of styrene maleic anhydride co-polymers.
Polyscope offers the broadest styrene maleic co-polymer product portfolio for Engineering Plastics and Specialty Polymer applications under it’s trade name XIRAN ®.
XIRAN ® is commercially available in varying maleic anhydride content in broad molecular weight range.
Polyscope was founded in 2006 and headquartered in Geleen, the Netherlands. Currently employing 40 fte’s and growing and is supported by marketing & sales organisations in the USA, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Polyscope operates a polymerization production plant in Geleen. The XIRAN ® based compounds are produced on in the US and in the Netherlands with dedicated production lines.
Polyscope serves a wide range of industries globally whereby the functions XIRAN ® differs per application.

+ Acetic acid
Cationic XIRAN is of importance in the paper industry. It can be used as co-softener in laundry. It has anti-bacterial effect and therefore has a fit as binder in anti-fouling coatings
Acetic acid is used in this example as counter ion. Other acids can be used as well.
In this example DMAPA is used:Dimethylaminepropylamine is a clear and colorless liquid, with a typical amine smell, fully miscible with water, heptane and benzene and has a boiling point of 135°C.

SMA imide is insoluble in water and will form nano particles with size of 40 – 140 nm.
If done in a wax or silicon oil “dispersion” the oil will get encapsulated.
