“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”
Happy Labor Day September 2013
It feels like Fall ……….Somewhere
Fall will be here soon, although here in Florida it’s
hard to tell. You’re going to have to wait until about
the third week of October before the daily high
temperatures drop to the low 80s. The folks at the
Florida climate center say Fall happens when the
daily low temperatures drop below 60 degrees and
stay there. In the Tampa Bay area that doesn’t usually
Happen until you’re eyeing turkey for Thanksgiving.
You know its fall in Florida when------
You put away your light green bathing suit in
favor of your brown one.
You can roll down the windows in your car
and not run the risk of melting
You can plant things without them withering
immediately
The stores put out the winter holiday
decorations.
Everywhere you turn there is some sort of
festival celebrating art, food, wine, crafts,
history, cars, gourds etc.
Although we don’t get the rainbow of falling
Leaves that other states do, we do see a lot
of acorns and random other seedlings.
Hey, that’s less raking for us.
Time to Celebrate!
To honor workers far and near
Our nation passed a bill
To grant all men a day of rest
A Sabbath—if you will!
Much praise is due our labor force
For each achievement made
Who’ve furthered the economy
Our country’s growth and trade.
It’s also a three day weekend’n
The last chance to bask in the warm sunshine,
Enjoy the poolside and just have a great time
With friends and family with bbqs, parades and picnics.
Chill out this Labor Day with friends, family,
Associates and loved ones and wish’em a
Fun-tas-tic Labor Day weekend!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
from the Association President
This is the 22th anniversary year for the Southfork
Community and did you know that the first open house
was held at Southfork on September 1st, 1991. Where
have all the years gone? So much history in these 22
years and I am sure there are still many who can
remember! There will be pictures of open fields, and
the beginning of the construction of Southfork and they
will all be on display in the newly renovated library
which should be completed very shortly.
Our Home Owners Association was incorporated in
December 1993. We will be celebrating our 20th
anniversary on December 10th, (please save this date).
Phyllis Grossi and I are working on a special
newsletter for December and we need your help! Did
you serve on the Board of Directors or remember who
served during the years 1993 to 2001? We need to know
whom the officers/directors were. Do you recall who
started it and how or did you help? Do you remember
an event that you would like to share? Pictures?
Articles? Funny stories? Do you have any newsletters
previous to November year 2000? Phyllis sure could use
them.
Is there some one special you would like us to remember
and why? Do you remember all the entertainment,
shows, any special events that were held at Southfork.
Would you like to see any of the past socials brought
back? We really need your help and please pass all
and any information you have ASAP because it will take
some time to put all of this together and we want to
really make this one special anniversary. Please,
please help us make it one night to remember!
Dot
Come Join Us On September 26th
This will be our first of two welcome back socials to invite all the old
and newer residents to come and join us! We are so glad to have you
back and we sure did miss you and we just have to show our
appreciation to all of you!
This first one is a “PIZZA PARTY” and it will be held on September 26th,
@5pm. Bring a salad or dessert to pass (enough for at least 8 people ).
This community stays active during the summer months but it is
nothing like the excitement in seeing who is back first, who is due in
any day and then when all are back, it is like family is finally here.
We are planning another welcome home party ( November 14th) when
everyone is back . By this time all of our (SUN-SEEKERS) another name
for snowbirds and all of the newer residents will be back. We know
there are still some due in after the holidays but we want to get
everyone in the welcome back mood to get the fall season off to a good
start.
So come join us and meet your new and old neighbors and sit and chit
chat awhile!

Women’s Club
On August 7th, 22 ladies met at the “Sunrise Eatery” restaurant for a
beautiful meal. The portions were so large that most of the ladies had another
meal to take home. Besides the great service it was very enjoyable.
I want to thank everyone who brought school supplies and we filled up 3
oversize boxes to deliver to the Lacoochee school. Again, a big thank you for
your generosity.
Next month on Sept 4th, we will meet in the clubhouse for our 1st regular
meeting of the fall. We have lots of topics to discuss and Mary Bolin and Mary
Clifford will be our hostesses.
We will also be celebrating the birthdays of June, July, August and September.
Please be there .
Marielle, President
PS Don’t forget the 2 cans of food we give to the needy.

WELCOME BACK
WOW!!!!! It is hard to believe that Labor Day weekend is nearing and
summer is quickly coming to an end. It seems like just last week that the
season was just beginning and the snowbirds were leaving.
I hope it has been a good and healthy summer season for all of you. It has been a good
summer here at Southfork and now, in just a few short weeks, most of the snowbirds will be
back and many of the activities and meetings will be starting again.
FIRST DAY OF AUTUMN!!!!!!
September 22nd is the first day of autumn but here in Florida it is like any other day of the
year. Up North you are already thinking of cold weather, snow and ice and we here in
Florida can only go by the news media on what is happening and not missing the cold but we
sure do miss the fall colors.
So to all of us here in Florida, relax and enjoy with no worries about shovels or freezing
cold!!!!

Monday Morning Coffee Hour
Each week on Monday mornings from 8am to 9am there is always coffee brewing which is
free and we do have donuts for those who are a little hungry and they are $.50 each. What
a good way to meet some of your neighbors and start your week.
The men are usually talking about the latest sport event on TV and the women are always
talking about the latest happenings in the community. No agenda or speakers, just a chance
for our community to come together. Bring your smile and wit and we’ll furnish your coffee.
We would love to get to know all of our new neighbors and the others who have been in
hibernation lately. Come join us!!!!
Signing of the Declaration of Independence
We did not know we had a celebrity here in Southfork!
A group of residents made a trip in July to “The Presidents Museum”
about an hour north of Southfork and lo and behold, who do we have
sitting at the table to help sign but our own local Pete Logoyda.
You never know when you will hit the big times and now we know who
did.
Southfork Men’s Club
Greetings from Vermont. The next Men's Club meeting will be at
9:00AM, Thursday, October 3rd in the club house.
It is essential that all members attend! This will be a critical meeting
for the future of the club. We need to elect a Secretary and
determine the future direction of the club.
All members should be present to voice their thoughts and ideas. If
any member wishes to contact me prior to the meeting my email is
jjbccb3@aol and my cell is 352-250-1225.

WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT? (Taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds) Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of their own. They like other people's. A grandfather is a man, & a grandmother is a lady! Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't work hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money. When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars. They show us and talk to us about the colors of the flowers and also why we shouldn't step on 'cracks.' They don't say, 'Hurry up.' Usually grandmothers are fat but not too fat to tie your shoes. They wear glasses and funny underwear. They can take their teeth and gums out. Grandparents don't have to be smart. They have to answer questions like 'Why isn't God married?' and 'How come dogs chase cats?' When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again. Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television because they are the only grownups who like to spend time with us. They know we should have a snack time before bed time, and they say prayers with us and kiss us even when we've acted bad. GRANDPA IS THE SMARTEST MAN ON EARTH! HE TEACHES ME GOOD THINGS, BUT I DON'T GET TO SEE HIM ENOUGH TO GET AS SMART AS HIM! It's funny when they bend over; you hear gas leaks, and they blame their dog. Send this to other grandparents, almost grandparents, or heck, send it to everyone. It will make their day.
SOUTHFORK ENTERTAINMENT SERIES
We are ending or starting the season with a first class entertainer. The
John Timpanelli Comedy Show. The show will be on Tuesday, October
29th, @7pm and the tickets are $7.00 per person.
John lives in New Port Richey and showcases his acts all over Central
Florida.
We are advertising this performance early in hopes that most of our
Northern Families will return earlier. On behalf of Tom and Harvey, I
thank all of you for supporting our summer June & July shows.

Brown Recluse Spider . . .
This has been around before, but at this time of year, it is worth seeing again.
It's warm & cleanup is going on. Be careful where you put your hands. They like dark spaces &
woodpiles, corners, sheds and any dark areas such as attics etc.
The Brown Recluse Spider is one of the most dangerous spider’s that we have here in the USA.
A person can die from it's bite. We all should know what the spider looks like.
People will be digging around, doing yard work, fall/spring cleaning etc.
Please be careful.
Spider bites are dangerous and can have permanent and highly negative consequences.
If you do have an attic or crawl space, go up there and turn on a light and leave it on for about 30
minutes before you go in to do your work. They may be lurking and waiting to attack!!!!
Please be careful and look before you do anything in an area that you can not see well!!!!!!!
