So what does a 7 mean anyway? 5 linked to OECD PISA tests...so a C is really a C+

So...how have schools responded?Increased curriculum time

for Maths and English

● Subjects are double weighted in PM

● Exams are clearly more challenging & more content

Start GCSEs in Year 9

● KS3 levels AWOL

● Use time to enable deep learning of KS4 material

● Flat cash per pupil funding equates to about a 10.5% cut

● Recruitment of Maths and English specialists…!

● Legacy GCSE instruction causing havoc with Year 9

Legacy GCSEWe currently enter every student for EPS in Year 10 after starting in Year 9

Our students choose two options in Year 8 last year to start their GCSE options in

Year 9

Legacy rules means that any grade obtained by the student in 2017 with early entry

(our current Year 9) will not count towards the school's performance in 2018 as the

new GCSE overrides the use of a legacy qualification

So, either take the hit on the tables…..or prepare them for the new GCSE in Year 11

OFSTED will look for evidence of an effective AWOL model built on KS2 scores we don’t have yet and GCSE “values” we haven’t mapped out yet for all subjects...
