About this ReviewThis Emerging Technology Review is the year long result of countless interactions, investigations and interviews with inventors, academics, investors and business leaders from around the world. Many of the 204 Emerging Technologies highlighted in this review are already being employed by new market entrants to develop, augment and manufacture market leading next generation products and services.

No organisation or industry is immune from disruption and the rate of disruption, driven by easier access to funding, expert resources and advanced prototyping technologies which make new products and business models easier to develop and deploy, is accelerating. The disintermediation of the banking model is the direct result of thousands of new Fintech companies using a slew of new technologies that range from Machine Learning and Cognitive Computing Systems through to Block Chain and new digital DevOps Platforms to create new products and services at speed. In the past two years new peer to peer trading platforms, high frequency trading bots, mobile payment systems, virtual currencies and intelligent, automated wealth creation agents have disrupted existing finance models.

Transport

The cost of entry into this market is declining rapidly and we have already seen individuals 3D print their own, working vehicles. Advanced software algorithms and new pay per use cloud HPC platforms have removed the need to buy expensive infrastructure and physically crash test products, meanwhile new battery technology, materials, autonomous vehicle systems and advanced manufacturing techniques have helped new market entrants transform the driving experience, dramatically reduce supply chain complexity and more than halve the cost of prototyping and manufacturing new vehicles.
