Casa Tota Assagao Goa

An IntroductionOur house is in the village of Assagao, one of the most sought after villages in the Bardez province of North Goa. It is a traditional Portuguese house approximately 150 years old. It has been lovingly restored and is furnished to a high standard. There is a central courtyard, which includes kitchen and dining areas and a decorative water feature in the middle. There are 3 bedrooms with colonial 4-poster beds and adjoining bathrooms. We now have air-conditioning in all the bedrooms as well as the

2 single beds that can be pushed together to create a double. This extra space shares the bathroom and the air con with the room below, so the space becomes a perfect family room.

The back veranda looks onto the lawn and garden. There is a telephone and broadband in the house. Shyam our housekeeper speaks English and is very friendly and helpful. He keeps the house and garden clean and tidy, prepares breakfast and helps generally with ordering taxis and mopeds etc. He also cares for our dog Candy who loves the attention of visitors! Shyam is married to Rohini who is also very sweet and is helping him and improving her English. They have 2 young boys and live in the cottage in the garden. The Alsatian in this photo is not with us anymore. Candy is the small white dog in the photo above. We offer you a simple breakfast of tea or coffee, fruit, muesli and yogurt, eggs, fresh bread rolls, with butter and jam. Fried eggs and omelettes are easy for Shyam, boiled, poached and scrambled are a little more hit or miss! His Masala omelettes are popular, but may take longer to prepare.

Casa Tota Assagao Goa Vish Baindur supervises Shyam and takes bookings and payments. His telephone numbers are +91 932 601 2740 or +91 800 700 0448 or you can contact him by email on baindur@india.com and baindur@live.com. He will call to welcome you and can give general advice at any time. He lives in a village not far away.

We are about 4 miles from the nearest beach and one can go by taxi, scooter or bus. Most people rent scooters and Shyam can arrange this. A local bus passes our front gate every hour and goes to Mapusa our local town with a great market. The market is open daily but Fridays are particularly special! There is also a small supermarket,

you might need here – it is also fun and a great meeting place. Another bus that stops not far away goes to the beach resorts of Anjuna and Vagator. Many people like to go to the Northern beaches like Morjim or Assvem, the latter has some good beach huts where one can spend the day and have some very good food – the steak at “La Plage” is highly recommended!

We are about 45 minutes from the capital of Goa, Panjim where there is a cathedral, many shops and a new 4-screen cinema. We are about 1 hour and a quarter by car from the airport and we can send a taxi to meet you. Monarch do a weekly or fortnightly charter

take one of about 6 local airlines down to Goa with lots

luggage to go through.

‘Paired downchic with a touch of Bollywoodʼ sums up

exotic holiday let.

Many Indian people come to Goa during the

Monsoon. It is generally a time for reflection and

relaxation and one can visit a health spa, take walks on the beach or even visit the excellent dentists in Panjim for specialist treatments at about a quarter of the cost

of the same in the UK.
