When?25 February - 1 March 2019
Where?Warsaw, Poland
What? The theme for the 2019 TIDE Hackathon is data science. Teams will compete in three challenges linking data science, the NATO
Protection of Civilians, and Information Environment Assessment activities.
Why? The TIDE Hackathon takes NATO out of its comfort zone by making it look at solutions
differently. It’s an exciting event with interesting challenges and great networking
opportunities.
Why else? It’s free & it’s fun and you will learn!

TIDE Projectsare sponsored and coordinated by:
HQ Supreme Allied Command Transformation
Don’t be conventional, we want fresh ideas, pursued without prejudice and preconceptions.
We want fresh minds, energetic enthusiasts, competitive fighters – don’t be constrained by what you think we want to see or hear.
Our mentors will guide you. They know about NATO and will advise you throughout. Remember – ask them what you like, but not for a solution – that’s up to you!
For the 2019 TIDE Hackathon, we want novel solutions to demonstrate how we can connect three major work strands:
• Protection of Civilians• Information Environment Assessment • Data Science
The 2019 TIDE Hackathon will test you with the following three challenges:
1. How can NATO optimize its understanding of humanitarian de-mining activity?
2. What military support activities should NATO prioritize to enable humanitarian de-mining activities?
3. How can NATO progress towards visualizing strategic communications?
Some tasks can’t be solved by one team alone; even if the team is one of NATOs Strategic Commands.
So we’ve created the TIDE Hackathon; to learn, to try, to explore, and to test. Sometimes we must just ‘give it a go’, that is what a Hackathon lets us do.
We need you to turn “Wouldn’t it be cool if?” or “How could this work?” into “That’s cool!” and “That’s how!”
This is an exciting week of work – off schedule, off budget and off hierarchy. Just roll your sleeves up and go!
It’s also a competition, convince the Judges and you could be demonstrating your winning solution at TIDE Sprint in Croatia, or at CWIX in Poland.
Show us your innovative self, we’re looking for new, untested and un-usual.
