Outdoor Antenna Grounding - If an outside antenna isconnected to the receiver, be sure the antenna system is groundedso as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built upstatic charges.Section 810 of the National Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1984,provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mastand supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an anten-na discharge unit, size of grounding connectors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirementsfor the grounding electrode. See Figure below.

BASIC TV AND REMOTE CONTROL OPERATION3

1 Press the POWER buttonto turn the TV ON.

Note:You can also press anybutton on the front of the TVto turn the TV ON.

2 Press the VOLUME + button toincrease the sound level, or theVOLUME – button to lower thesound level.

Pressing both buttons at thesame time will display the on-screen menu. Once in the menu,use these buttons to make adjust-ments or selections.

3 Press the CHANNEL UP + orDOWN – button to select TVchannels.

4 Point the remote controltoward the remote sensor win-dow on the TV when operatingthe TV with the remote.

T o load the supplied batteriesinto the remote:

1. Remove the battery com-partment lid on the back of theremote.

2. Place the batteries (2-AA) inthe remote. Be sure the (+) and (-) ends of the batteries line up cor-rectly (inside of case is marked.)

3. Reattach the battery lid.

MUTE ButtonPress the mute button to eliminate the soundbeing heard from the TV.“MUTE” will be dis-played on the TV’s screen. Press again torestore the TV’s volume to it’s previous level.

SLEEP ButtonPress the Sleep button to set the TV to auto-matically turn itself off after a set period oftime. Press repeatedly to select 15, 30, 45, 60,90, 120, 180, or 240 minutes.

makes it easy for you to select only the TVstations in your area when the CHANNEL(+), (–) buttons are pressed.

1 Press the MENU button on theremote to show the on-screenmenu.

HOW TO USE THE TUNER MODE CONTROL12T he TUNER MODE control allows you to

change the TV’s input signal to eitherANTENNA, CABLE, or AUTO mode. It’simportant for the TV to know what type ofsignal to look for (Cable TV or an Antenna).In the AUTO mode, when the AUTO PRO-GRAM feature is activated, the TV will auto-matically choose the correct mode.

8 Now use the CURSOR RIGHT˙to toggle between ON or OFF. IfON is selected the channels is skippedwhen scrolling channels with the CH+or CH- buttons. If OFF is selected thechannels is not skipped when scrollingchannels with the CH+ or CH- but-tons.

9 When finished, press the STA-TUS/EXIT button to remove themenu from the screen.

PANEL LAYOUT BASIC ANTENNA AND CABLE CONNECTIONS

Your home’s signal input might come froma single (75 ohm) round cable, a

Converter Box, or from an antenna. In eithercase the connection to the TV is very easy.

1 If your Cable TV signal orAntenna signal is a round cable(75 ohm) then you're ready to con-nect to the TV.If your antenna has flat twin-lead wire (300 ohm), you first needto attach the antenna wires to thescrews on a 300 to 75 ohm adapter.If you have a Cable ConverterBox: Connect the Cable TV signalto the Cable Signal IN(put) plug onthe Converter.

2 Connect the Cable TV cable orAntenna cable (or 300 to 75 ohmadapter) to the 75Ω plug on the TV.If you have a Cable ConverterBox: Connect the OUT(put) plugfrom the Converter to the 75Ω plugon the TV.

After using the AutoProgram Control,press the CH + and – buttons toscroll through all the channels storedin the television’s memory.

CABLE BOX CONNECTIONS2If you cable signal uses a cable box ordecoder, follow the easy steps below to com-

plete the connection.

Cable Box (w/RF In/Outputs):This connection will be mono.

1 Connect the Cable Companysupplied cable to the signal IN(put)plug on the back of the Cable Box.

2 Using a separate round coaxial cable,connect one end to the OUT(put)(TO TV) plug on the back of theCable Box.

3 Connect the other end of theround coaxial cable to the 75Ωinput on the back of the television.Screw it down finger tight.

NOTE: If applicable, set the OUTPUTCHANNEL SWITCH on the back of thecable box to CH 3 or 4.Tune the TV to thesame channel and change channels at thecable box. In some cases, the cable box willautomatically tune to either channel 3 or 4,change channels until the picture appears.Cable Box (w/Audio/Video Outputs):This connection will supply Stereo sound.

4 Connect the Cable Companysupplied cable to the cable signalIN(put) plug on the back of theCable Box.

5 Using a RCA type Video Cable, con-nect one end of the cable to theVideo (or ANT, your cable box may belabeled differently) Out jack on thecable box and the other end to theAV1 Video Input on the TV.

6 Connect one end of the Audio Leftand Right Cable to the left andright Audio Out L & R jacks onthe cable box. Connect the otherend to the AV In Audio L & R Inputjacks on the TV.

NOTE: Use the AV button on the TVremote control to tune to the AV channelfor the cable box signal. Once tuned, changechannels at the cable box, not the television.

AV (AUDIO/VIDEO) OUT(PUT) CONNECTIONS8The Audio/Video Output jacks are great for

recording with a VCR or used to connectan external audio system for better soundreproduction.

AUDIO SYSTEM CONNECTION:

1 Connect one end of the R(ight)and L(eft) AUDIO jacks on theTV to the R and L audio input jackson your amplifier or sound system.Set the audio system’s volume to anormal listening level.

2 Turn the TV and audio systemON. To adjust the volume on theaudio system, you will need tochange the volume at the externalaudio system, not the television.

SECOND VCR CONNECTION:

NOTE: Refer to panel number 4 for theproper hookup of the first VCR. Followthe instructions on how to tune to theAV1 channel to view a pre-recorded tape.

The following steps allow you toconnect a second VCR to record theprogram while your watching it.

1 Connect one end of the yellowVideo Cable to the AV Out VIDEOplug. Connect the other end to theVIDEO IN plug on the second VCR.

2 Connect one end of the red andwhite Audio cable from the AVOut AUDIO L and R plugs on theTV to the AUDIO IN plugs on theVCR.

3 Turn the Second VCR ON,insert a VHS tape and it’s ready torecord what’s being viewed on theTV screen.

COMPONENT VIDEO (CVI) INPUT CONNECTIONS

Component Video inputs provide for thehighest possible color and picture resolu-

tion in the playback of digital signal sourcematerial, such as with DVD players. Thecolor difference signals (Pb, Pr) and theluminance (Y) signal are connected andreceived separately, which allows forimproved color bandwidth information (notpossible when using composite video or S-Video connections).

1 Connect the Component (Y, Pb,Pr) Video OUT jacks from theDVD player (or similar device) to the(Y, Pb, Pr) in(put) jack on the TV.When using the Component VideoInputs, it is best not to connect asignal to the AV in Video Jack.

2 Connect the red and whiteAUDIO CABLES to the Audio(left and right) output jacks on therear of the accessory device to theAudio (L and R) AV In Input Jackson the TV.

3 Turn the TV and the DVD (ordigital accessory device) ON.

4 Press the AV button or the CH+ or CH – buttons to scroll theavailable channels until CVI appearsin the upper left corner of the TVscreen.

5 Insert a DVD disc into the DVDplayer and press the PLAY button on the DVD Player.

The description for the component video con-nectors may differ depending on the DVD playeror accessory digital source equipment used (forexample,Y, Pb, Pr;Y, B-Y, R-Y;Y, Cr, Cb). Althoughabbreviations and terms may vary, the letters band r stand for the blue and red color compo-nent signal connectors, and Y indicates the lumi-nance signal. Refer to your DVD or digitalaccessory owner’s manual for definitions andconnection details.

7NOTE: When using additional accessories, only oneexternal source will be audible, as there is only oneset of sound inputs. Component Video (CVI) inputwill dominate over all other inputs, including S-Video(S-VHS) and AV. When S-Video (S-VHS) is used, itwill dominate over the AV input.

S-VIDEO (S-VHS) INPUT CONNECTIONS

The S(uper)-Video connection on the rearof the TV can provide you with better pic-

ture detail and clarity for the playback ofaccessory sources such as DBS (digital broad-cast satellite), DVD (digital video discs), videogames, and S-VHS VCR (video cassetterecorder) tapes than the normal antenna pic-ture connections.

NOTE: The accessory device must have anS-VIDEO OUT(put) jack in order for you tocomplete the connection on this page.

Repeat steps 1 through 3 to add addi-tional channels (up to 10) to each of thethe SURF lists.

To remove a channel from one ofthe SURF lists;

4 Press the COLORED QuadraSurf button until the desired chan-nel appears.The screen will displaythe channel number with a colored“Smiley” face to indicate theColored button it relates to.

5 While the “Smiley” face chan-nel indicator is displayed, pressthe FROWNIE face button.The screen will read,“Remove item?- Press .”

6 Press the FROWNIE facebutton again to confirm yourdecision to remove the channelfrom the Surf list.

Repeat steps 4-6 to remove other chan-nels from Surf lists.

control allow you to store up to 10 chan-nels per button (40 total).You can even pro-gram the A/V Input channels for each buttonmaking them a “source” button.

Assuming channels have now been added tothe four Quadra Surf lists (the four coloredbuttons, see the previous page), let’s reviewhow the feature works.

1 Press one of the pre-pro-grammed COLORED buttons onthe remote (Red, Green,Yellow orBlue).The screen will display a smileyface with the first programmed chan-nel for that surf list.

2 While the colored “smiley” facestill appears on the screen, pressthe same COLORED button onthe remote to tune the second chan-nel programmed for that specific surflist.

3 Repeatedly pressing the sameCOLORED button while the “smi-ley” face appears will tune all the pro-grammed channels. Pressing the COL-ORED button again will return you tothe first channel in the list.

If the “smiley” face disappears from thescreen and the same COLORED button ispressed, the surf channels will be displayedstarting with the FIRST programmed chan-nel again.

4 Repeat steps 1-3 for the other threeCOLORED buttons (Surf lists) ifdesired.

5 Any time the “smiley” face appearswith the channel number, pressingthe “frownie” face button willallow you to remove it from the list(see the previous page for moredetails).

TROUBLESHOOTING

No Power• Check the TV power cord. Unplug the TV, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert the plug

into the outlet and push the POWER button again.• Check that the outlet is not on a wall switch.• Be sure the fuse is not blown on the AC power strip, if one is being used.

No Picture• Check antenna connections. Are they properly secured to the TV's ANT 75Ω plug?• Check the TUNER MODE control for the correct tuner setting.• Try running the Auto Program feature to find all available channels.• Press the AV button on the remote to make sure the correct signal source is select-

ed (FRONT or Current Channel).

No Sound• Check the VOLUME buttons.• Check the MUTE button on the remote control.• If you’re attempting to hook up auxiliary equipment, check the audio jack connections

located on the front of the TV.

Remote Does Not Work• Check the batteries. If necessary, replace them with AA Heavy Duty (Zinc Chloride)

or Alkaline batteries.• Clean the remote control and the remote control sensor window on the TV.• Check the TV power cord. Unplug the TV, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert the plug

into the outlet and push the POWER button again.• Be sure the fuse is not blown on the AC power strip, if one is being used.• Check to be sure the TV outlet is not on a wall switch.

TV Displays Wrong Channel or No Channels Above 13• Repeat channel selection.• Add the desired channel numbers (using the CHANNEL EDIT control) into the TV’s

memory.• Check to be sure the TUNER MODES are set to the CABLE option and run the

Auto Program feature to find all available channels.
