WRITER DEFIES TIME WITH NON-SURGICAL TWEAKS

YOU NEED:

150g digestive biscuits

75g melted butter

10 Cadbury Creme Eggs

750g full fat cream cheese

1 vanilla pod

150g icing sugar

300ml double cream

white chocolate, melted

dark chocolate, melted

caramel sauce

6 mini Cadbury Creme Eggs

Utensils:8in cake ring or spring formtin acetate

METHOD: Line the inside of the tinor ring with some acetate. This willmake it easier to remove thecheesecake after it has been set.

Crush the biscuits into finecrumbs and stir the melted butterin. Pour into the cake tin and pressaround the bottom of the tin so thewhole surface is covered and com-pact, then put in the fridge to set.

Chop five of the Cadbury CremeEggs into small chunks and setthem to one side.

In a bowl, beat together thecream cheese, the seeds from thevanilla pod and the sifted icingsugar. Next, in a separate bowlwhisk the double cream until itstarts to firm up.

Gently fold the cream into thecream cheese mix until combined, then add the chopped-up CremeEggs and mix in.

Take out the cake tin with the bis-cuit case. Cut the remaining Cad-bury Creme Eggs in half length-ways and arrange them facing outaround the sides of the cake tin.Use the goo to make the CremeEggs stick to the sides.

Pour in the cheesecake mix andflatten off the top with a spatula orpalette knife. Set in the refrigeratorfor at least an hour.

Once set, take out from the fridgeand remove the tin, being carefulwith the outside of the cake.

Drizzle over some white choco-late, dark chocolate and caramelsauce in a criss-cross pattern.

Cut the mini Creme Eggs in halflengthways and arrange around theoutside of the cheesecake.

BOTOX: £350 Jumping right in, I book in foranti-ageing injections at The FacialSculpting Clinic in London.

I’m nervous — a needle in my faceisn’t exactly appealing.

Dr Nina Bal explains that Botoxblocks signals from nerves to mus-cles, meaning muscles cannot con-tract and wrinkles relax and soften.

We start with my forehead andeyelids which have dropped asI’ve aged.

I am shaking as I climb on to thebed, but Dr Nina assures me it willbe quick — and a few scratcheslater, we are done.

Over the next few days the Botoxworks miracles.

I have fewer lines and the skin onmy forehead feels taut. I panicwhen I notice a vertical dent in myforehead but realise it’s always beenthere, hidden beneath the wrinkles.VERDICT: Quick, easy, and far lesspainful than waxing. By day 14, myskin is smoother and wrinkle-free.

But I’m already concerned I’llneed a top-up in three to six monthswhen it starts to wear off, so I mustmake sure I don’t get too obsessed.

RATING: 4/5FROWN LINE FILLER: £350

I’ve got a deep frown line betweenmy eyes and Dr Nina tells medermal filler — an injection whichfills out creases with hyaluronic acid— should sort it out.

After a dab of numbing cream isapplied, I shut my eyes, cross myfingers and feel Dr Nina mould thefiller into place.VERDICT: This only took twominutes. The frown line was stillvisible immediately afterwards buttwo weeks on it has completelyfaded. The area feels tender for acouple of days, but for an instantfix it is fantastic.

RATING: 4/5CACI LIP PLUMP:

£60 for six sessionsMy lips have thinned as I’ve agedso I decide to try the Caci lipplump, an alternative to lip fillers,at The Mews Beauty Salon inWakefield, West Yorks.

The Wrinkle Comb, a devicewhich transmits electrical impulses,is supposed to draw moisture to thesurface and plump lips.

The ten-minute treatment is pain-free so I go for six sessions, threedays apart. VERDICT: I start to see results aftermy third treatment. There’s a subtledifference only on my bottom lip. Itdoesn’t give me the wow factor butmay work well on fuller lips.

RATING: 3/5

HYDRAGENESIS FACIAL: £240Open pores and broken veinsaround my nose make my skinlook older than I’d like so I bookin for the HydraGenesis Facial atAesthetic Health in Leeds.

It’s a two-parter which promisesto cleanse, exfoliate and hydrateskin to slow ageing as well astackling broken veins and reducingredness with a laser treatment.

Before we get going, an impressivemachine called a Visia photographsmy face and shows I have theskin of a 48-year-old. Brutal. The60-minute facial is more uncomfort-able than painful.

There is no chance of nodding offmid-treatment because the vacuum-tip works by sucking out grime.

Then it’s time for the laser, whichzaps broken veins around my nose.

A course of three to six treat-ments is recommended but minevanished instantly.

VERDICT: This is the queen offacials. While it’s far from relaxing,it transforms my dull, tiredcomplexion.

My face looks cleaner, less oily, and friends say how well I lookedbecause of my youthful rosy glow.

RATING: 5/5LOWER FACE FILLERS: £1,680

My face has slimmed out and lostplumpness as I’ve got older.

After a lengthy consultation withDr Julia Sevi at Aesthetic Health inLeeds, she uses a cannula to giveme Belotero filler, which is a softgel with hyaluronic acid. It goes intomy chin area and around the down-turned corners of my mouth.

She also adds Radiesse fillerbelow my cheeks, which is meant tocontinue to work over time by stim-ulating the body’s own collagen.

I realise fillers aren’t for a softie

with a low pain threshold. There’slots of tugging and I’m quietlyrelieved when we’re done.

But I love the instant change inmy face. I have cheekbones againand the downward lines at thecorners of my mouth are gone. Imust remember to smile more.VERDICT: For instant age-defyingresults, this ticks every box. Fillersare expensive and more invasivethan Botox — I have swelling forabout a week — but the effects lastlonger. Up to two years, in fact.

RATING: 4/5LASH EXTENSIONS: £35

Mascara is such a faff and it’s rareI manage to do mine before theschool run, so I pop to get someNouveau Individual Express Lashesat Saks Beauty in Leeds.

Each lash is applied separately. Ichoose the length — twice my usual— and an hour later my eyes are

The perfect 40th birthday gift? To look 10yrs younger

WHAT’S the ideal birthday present for a woman turning 40? Looking 30 again has to be up there.

With the big 4-0 fast approaching, journalist CLAIRE DUNWELL wanted to drown her sorrows with a few pina coladas on a family holiday in the sun.

But then Claire – who lives in Wakefield, West Yorks, with husband Ian, 53, a fish shop owner, and sons, Sam, 11, and Louie, eight – had another idea: What if she spent that money on her appearance?

She said: “I wanted to see if I could knock ten years off my looks – without going under the knife. For the cost of a week’s family holiday on a Greek island, I could get my capillaries blasted, wrinkles ironed out, grooves filled and even throw in a fake tan for good measure.”

Here’s how she got on.

1GM Monday, April 2, 2018 ............... 33FEELING a bit out of the loop at the start of another working week?

If so, Fabulous Daily’s Mondaybarometer is here to tell you what’s hot and what’s not.

BED INVADERS: Sam Faiers doesn’t share a bed with partner Paul. Each snuggles up to one of their two tots instead. Mummy mollycoddling gone mad?

TEED OFF: Luxury brand The Row – owned by Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen – is flogging aplain whiteT-shirt for £300. We will stick to our £3 Primark tees, thanks.

FALSE HOPE: Joey, Dawson, Pacey and Jen reunited for a mag cover but the foursome haven’t given the thumbs-up on a reunion. Excited fans are still up Dawson’s Creek without a paddle.

SLOW SPORTSWEAR: We have heard of fast fashion but sportswear giant Adidas has slowed down its manufacturing process to create a new yoga collection made fromrecycled ocean plastic.

FOUR-DAY WEEKS: Last week was bliss and this one has got off to a terrific start. We love this four-day working-week malarky. Roll on the next bank holidays in May.

SPRING SCENTS: Yardley is no longer just for your gran. Its new range of floral fragrances retail at £25 and smell divine.

transformed. They’re thicker, fuller, and look completely natural.

I can’t remember what I lookedlike before and when I ask anacquaintance to guess my age, shesays 35. Result. VERDICT: This was my favouritetreatment of all. The lashes reallyopened my eyes and lasted a goodtwo weeks. I’m planning my nextappointment — it’s a bargain.

RATING: 5/5BROW TINT & SHAPE: £21.50

I’ve neglected my brows for so longthey’re both straggly and over-plucked. For a younger look, I’mtold thicker, darker brows are best.

At Benefit Brow Bar at Deben-hams in Leeds my brows aremeasured for symmetry and abrown tint is applied. Next, it’s onto the waxing and lastly a brownpencil to even out the arch.

VERDICT: My brows stand outmuch more than before but I don’tthink they made enough of adifference to my overall face for meto keep up with them every fewweeks. Pass me the tweezers.

RATING: 3/5SPRAY TAN: £15

My pasty skin is in serious need ofcolour. I head to Dream BeautySalon in Leeds for a Fake Bakespray tan.

Once the initial tangerine tonehas faded, I look better. It’s theperfect winter pick-me-up. VERDICT: I leave the salon feelingten years younger. A great treat-ment if you’re short of time andwant a healthy all-year-round glow.

RATING: 4/5TOTAL COST: £2,751

OVERALL VERDICT: My 40th birth-day makeover has left me feeling a

millions dollars. My husband sayshe’s got a new woman, my kidskeep giving me puzzled secondglances, and even my hairdresserhas remarked on how well I look.

I’m happier and more confidentabout my appearance.

While I used to believe ingrowing old gracefully, dipping myface into the world of non-surgicaltreatments has changed myperspective.

But only after a thoroughconsultation should we even thinkabout getting on the couch.

A good place to start is SaveFace, a Government-approvedregister of practitioners who carryout non-surgical treatments. Seesaveface.co.uk.

I thought Botox and fillers leftwomen expressionless and fake.

Now I think if used sensibly, they’re the perfect pick-me-up.
