• “Part 25 Sec. 9 rule 225“ Rajasthan Jail Manual 1951 provides a rulefor an undertrial to work as convict.

• “ Sec. 3 – Constitution of the Jail Band”: Rajasthan Jail Band Rules1965 - On request undertrial prisoners can also be employedprovided they can be relied upon.

• Rajasthan Prison Bill 2016 – All prisoners to be encouraged to work:All categories of prisoners shall be encouraged to work. Undertrialprisoners and Convicts sentenced to simple imprisonment, whenopting to do productive work shall be compensated by way of wagesto be fixed by the government from time to time.

• In Bihar under trial prisoners arebusy in Physical exercise P.T.,Gym etc. and organic farming likemashroom in Samastipur Jail.And Paying -

• In Uttar Pradesh 40-50% under trial prisoners are getting Job Work eg.making of sports items, Assembling of Bulbs, Assembling of shoes atMeerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Lucknow and If working in work sheds thengetting wages decided by state Govt.

• In Madhya Pradesh an undertrial wants to work then he isprovided with house keeping activities and earning Rs.65/-For unskill and Rs.110/- skill.

Best Practices in Haryana

2017• 43 Undertrial prisoners were provided job work under PPP.

• 69 Undertrial prisoners were imparted vocational training on AC andRefrigeration repair.

• 85 Undertrial prisoners were imparted vocational training on Motor cyclerepair.

2018• 27 Undertrial prisoners were provided job work under PPP.

• 87 Undertrial prisoners were imparted vocational training on AC andRefrigeration repair.

• 112 Undertrial prisoners were imparted vocational training on Motor cyclerepair.

The vocational courses are being conducted by Govt polytechnics underConducted Development Through Polytechnics (CDTP) scheme.

BEST PRACTICES: HIMACHAL PRADESH

➢ ON REQUEST FROM UNDER TRIALS, ALLOWED TO WORK IN PRISONS

➢ PAID RS. 190/- PER DAY FOR WORK AFTER DEDUCTION FOR WELFARE FUND

➢ HIGHER REMUNERATION MOTIVATES THEM TO WORK
