70 Best Innovations that most people don’t know about

Dishes that clean themselves.

Developed by researchers at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, these dishes have a special coating that “repels water, dirt, and oil almost like a magnet, so you don’t have to use anything to clean it off,” says Hanna Billqvist, one of the designers. This coating already exists in other forms, chiefly in paint and certain fabrics, but this is the first time it's planned to be food safe.

Ultra-Ever Dry is a superhydrophobic (water) and oleophobic (hydrocarbons) coating that will completely repel almost any liquid. Ultra-Ever Dry uses proprietary nanotechnology to coat an object and create a barrier of air on its surface. This barrier repels water, oil and other liquids unlike any coating seen before. The other breakthrough associated with Ultra-Ever Dry is the superior coating adherence and abrasion resistance allowing it to be used in all kinds of applications where durability is required. Keep your stuff Ever Dry and neverwet!

Imagine a future in which a device connected to a computer can print a solid object. A future in which we can have tangible goods as well as intangible services delivered to our desktops or highstreet shops over the Internet. The following provides an overview of 3D printing technologies and their present and likely future application.

To address the problem of landmines in Afghanistan - there are 10 million unexploded still there - this entrepreneur from Afghanistan, Massoud Hassani , has developed a wind-driven "Mine Kafon" deminer;

Now if it rolls over a land mine, it will destroy itself and the landmine in the same time. It’s made from bamboo and biodegradable plastics. It has also a GPS chip integrated in it. So you can follow its steps on the website. You can see were it went, where are they safest paths to walk on and how many land mines are destroyed on that area. You can see the teaser video at: http://vimeo.com/51149501Or read more about it at:http://massoudhassani.blogspot.com/BBC's coverage at:http://www.bbc.com/future/story/...

Armstar Bodyguard 9XI-HD01

The flexible arm, which is armored with Kevlar and hard plastic, contains a rechargeable lithium battery pack that powers an "electronic deterrent" device built into the arm's artificial skin.

All the user has to do is pull a pin, and an assailant who grabs his or her arm is going to get zapped with electricity. The Bodyguard is also equipped with a bright LED flash-light, an HD camera capable of transmitting pictures (great for selfies whilst battering a mugger) , and a charging slot into which an iPhone apparently fits nicely.

This was patented as "wearable shield and self-defense device," is designed to be a shield, a non-lethal weapon and a communications device in one.

LifeStraw is a water filter designed to be used by one person to filter water so that they may safely drink it. It filters a maximum of 1000 litres of water, enough for one person for one year

For 1 in 6 people, access to water requires hard work: hours of walking, waiting in line and heavy lifting. The time spent fulfilling this basic need keeps many children out of school and prevents women from carrying out all the domestic and income generating work for which they are responsible.

By giving people easier access to potable water, the WaterWheel frees up valuable time, and in the process, removes barriers that prevent children from going to school and empowers women to engage in more productive activities.

25

"Load carrier for labour" is a great design innovation. It can be used as a backpack, as an overhead load carrier and as a trolley.

Designed and created by Vikram Dinubhai Panchal of NID Ahmedabad, it costs just Rs 300 (Less than 6 USD).

If scaled up, it can definitely save a lot of backaches!

If you've gone camping before, you've probably used a propane cooker or propane lantern. It works, but propane gives off toxic gases when burned and you have to bring propane canisters with you - heavy, flammable, and what if you run out?Biolite CampStove solves this problem. Just use twigs and wood chips you find anywhere, and you have clean-burning fire and electricity. http://www.ippinka.com/blog/post/gallery/biolite-campstove/

Water Pipe Generates Electricity Every Time It Is Used

Korean designer Ryan Jongwoo Choi has come up with an eco-friendly solution for generating energy that can be built into everyday habitats. The ES Pipe: Waterwheel can be installed between existing pipes, and uses a number of mini turbines to generate power from the flowing water. Every time someone turns on the tap, energy is generated, which can be stored in light bulbs placed in the pipe. These bulbs can then be taken out at night to light an area with the accumulated energy.

59

GravityLight uses weight to illuminate without batteries or fuelGravityLight has built an LED lamp that just might lift the burden. As the name implies, a weight (usually the very bag that the lamp ships in) generates electricity through natural force: the few seconds it takes to lift the weight can generate 30 minutes of light without ever replacing a battery or fuel supply.

Miracle Fruit

When eaten, a glycoprotein found in the berry binds to the consumer's taste buds effectively blocking the sour receptors on the tongue. Consequently, tasters can experience flavors from many foods such as lemons, limes, tomatoes, hot sauce, goat cheese and vinegar normal circumstances wouldn't allow.

Miracle fruit is most often used recreationally at "flavor-tripping parties," but there have been pushes to offer the fruit to diabetics and cancer patients whose medical conditions limit their gastronomic experiences.

The fruit or even tablets containing the molecule miraculin are easily procured online from multiple sources
