To All Citizens of the American Legion New Mexico Boys’ State:

I am so proud to have had the opportunity to watch you all work through our program and embrace the lessons that we have given. It is those who understand the processes of government that have the greatest ability to affect change around them. By your efforts this week, you are now equipped to be the instrument of change, rather than simply dealing with the changes implemented by others.

I spoke to you of the four characteristics that are essential for political figures to be a positive force in their communities. Once again, I challenge each of you to embrace these characteristics as you move forward into your adult lives. Hope for a better future. Loyalty to those who have given their trust. Integrity to do the right thing even when it’s hard. Perseverance to push through when you want to give up.

Finally, I want to thank each of you for the time you gave to this program over the last week. It has been my privilege and honor to have watched you grow and begin your journey into the leaders that I know you all will be.
