Post-Graduation PlansClass 0f 2019
Below are the post-graduation plans for Mountain View High School’s Class of 2019. Each student has chosen the path that they believe will best prepare them for their future, and our purpose in creating the post-grad plans map is to share the amazing adventures our graduates are embarking on. These endeavors include gap years, international college programs, jobs, mission trips, and even a student who is working on their portfolio in order to become a tattoo artist. The Oracle applauds all graduates on their future plans and celebrates the work they’ve accomplished thus far. Congratulations graduates, and best of luck with whatever follows your time at Mountain View High School.

You see, I’ve grown accustomed to your faces. In fact, for the first few months of the Fall of 2019, I’ll see you in the halls. I’ll get all geared up for a smile, a hello and a hug and then realize, it’s not you. I’ll sigh. Pretend my smile is for someone I really don’t know.
I’ll remember a laugh, or
a conversation or something amazing you said or wrote or did or baked or drew, played on an instrument or sang out loud
in my class. I’ll remember the way you danced in the hallway. Giggled uncontrollably at inappropriate moments. Made me giggle uncontrollably or bang my head against the whiteboard to try to make it through 5th period or 1st period or 7th period. I’ll remember the way we yelled hello at each other. I’ll remember the day you came to me, filled with the energy and excitement of realizing something new about yourself. I’ll remember all the ways you grew, whether it was your hair, your shoe size, your mind or your heart and I’ll be in awe once again of the strange alchemy of chromosome, experience and personality that makes each of you unrepeatable encounters in my life.
Schools are strange places. Once a year, a quarter of the population leaves and once every four years, only about .5% of the population remains. I’m part of that half percent. When (hopefully) you come to visit after graduation, you’ll marvel at how little things have changed -- “omg, she’s still teaching in that room?,” “he’s still teaching that class?” - and how much things have changed -- “Why couldn’t we have gotten new classrooms and the new student center?” And I’ll marvel at how much you’ve changed. (Your hair, your shoe size, your mind, your heart). I’ll ask you about your job, or your classes or your roommates or your favorite (least favorite) things about living on your own (favorite-eating anything you want; least-favorite having to cook it) and you’ll ask me how things at school are going. (Still teaching American Lit? Still
reading Linden Hills?) And I’ll say “great” because I love my job with all my heart. And then the bell will ring rudely ending our conversation and we’ll hug and say goodbye and for the next few days, I’ll see you in the halls.
I’ve come to believe that the little “ghosts” of you that linger are gifts you leave. They’re the impression you’ve left, whether you realize it or not, on me, on everyone you’ve touched at this school.
Even those of you who CAN’T WAIT TO GET OUT OF HERE are leaving traces of yourselves, like a dusting of glitter; I’ll walk down the hallway and see a little sparkle of you out of the corner of my eye.
Your hair, your shoe size, your heart, your mind. I’ve, we’ve all, grown accustomed to you. Never think for a minute that you’ll be forgotten.
Best,

University of Virginia, University of Oregon and San
Jose State. She has
taught in the English Depart-
ment for 20 years. Little known fact: the combined age of her egregiously spoiled dogs is 29 years, the same number of years Price has spent as a student. She loves dark chocolate and potatoes and avoids the words “moist” and “totes adorbs.”

Life skills students pursue alternative post grad plans
This year, eight students in the special education department will graduate with a certificate of completion and attend the MVLA Adult Postsecondary Program. Life Skills students on a non-diploma track stay at MVHS until age 22 and then continue their education for four more years at MVLA Adult Ed.
Given their long tenure at MVHS, these students have become familiar faces among the student body and an important part of the school community.
“They’ve been at this school so long and touched so many hearts and made so many connections,” said sophomore Ava Kopp, member of Spartan Buddies, a club that fosters friendship among mainstream and life skills students and organizes bonding activities.
Kopp said she will miss all the “little seconds” and memories she’s made, from seeing them every Thursday for club meetings, to “walking by their classroom and saying hi or giving them a hug.”
Senior Ellen Shaw, who organized this year’s Spartan
Buddies basketball game as the club’s sports commissioner, said she appreciates the level of positivity that the life skill students have brought to MVHS during their time here.
“I know that anytime I’m feeling down and I need some positivity in my life I [can go to the Life Skills] room and talk to some people and get really excited.”
At Adult Ed, the students will enroll in vocational courses to prepare them for a real life setting.
“The big goal for all of our
students is employment,” said Seamus Quillinan, special education teacher.
Students will learn how to utilize public transportation through the Valley Transportation Authority, how to cook, and how to take care of themselves independently before entering the workforce
In the past, students have gone on to work at the Veterans Association in Palo Alto or for Google.
“Being in their lives and seeing them everyday is something I’ll really miss,” Shaw said.
