It is something Ithink about everyday – how to connect with the people of our state. Thisnewsletter is the first of what I hope will be a quarterly update of what has beenhappening in my office. I hope you’ll find these newsletters to be insightful andmeaningful.

Summertime is such a wonderful experience in Sweet Home, Alabama – ourbeautiful beaches and lakes, walking trails, and state parks are wonderfulplaces to visit. However, please be mindful as we venture out that the numberof coronavirus cases are still rising. It is better to stay 6-feet apart from non-family members, and please wear a mask! We owe our COVID-19 frontlineworkers a debt of gratitude for their service during these unprecedented days.
I know 2020 has not been the year we expected. However, I hope that as weenter the Fourth of July weekend, you and your friends and family will celebrateour country in fine fashion all while adhering to social distancing guidelines.
I hope this newsletter answers some of your questions, and please know thatmy staff and I are always happy to hear from you.
Enjoy your summer!

Due to COVID-19, the Alabama Department of Labor has received over600,000 unemployment claims. The team at ADOL has worked around-the-clock and processed more than 90% of these claims by setting up help centersat the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl and at Alabama State University inMontgomery. Secretary Fitzgerald Washington and his team have truly steppedup and deserve a “Well Done!” I assure you all that Secretary Washington andthe hardworking men and women at Labor are continually working to be themost efficient and helpful to Alabamians in their time of need.

Don’t forget about our #RibbonsofHope campaign! I encourage the people ofAlabama to continue to tie ribbons around a tree or pole in their front yard or attheir jobs as a symbol to remind everyone to pray for medical personnel, firstresponders and for one another. We also want those that are sick to know thattheir fellow Alabamians are praying for their speedy recovery.
