Once upon a time Santa had 8,000 bears for Christmas. Which made him happy.

There was a fire in the workshop, causing all the bears to disappear.

Buddy, the head elf, was very upset. Christmas was coming and there were

no bears. They needed 8,000!

Math Concept: Y- Intercept

• The y-intercept was (0,8,000). It represents that on day zero Santa needed 8,000 bears by Christmas. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Buddy had a great idea. He decided to have 50 of his elves make 20 bears per day, since there were 8 days until Christmas.

Math Concept: Slope

• The slope of the line is -1,000 since the elves will be making 1,000 bears each day. This means that each day they need 1,000 less bears. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Each day 1,000 bears were made, making the amount of bears they needed smaller. And the amount they had bigger making Buddy happy.

Math Concept: Slope Intercept Form

• y=mx+b• y= -1000x+8000• There are -1000 bears

per day, which is 1,000 bears less then they should have then you add 8,000 to see how many bears they have left to make.

Buddy decided to do some calculations on the work he had the elves doing.

Math Concept: Point Slope Form

• y-y1=m(x-x1)• y-8,000= -1000(x-8)• The y1 is 8,000

representing the amount of bears they need, while the slope is -1,000 because they need 1,000 less bears a day. The x1 value is 8 representing 8 days until Christmas.

Then 8 days later there were 8,000 bears made. Just enough for Christmas. Santa and Buddy were very happy. So they went on a

sleigh ride.

Math Concept: X-Intercept

The x- intercept is (8,0). It represents that on day 8 there were 0 bears left to make.

Santa tried to think about how to reward his elves.

So he threw them a party with hot chocolate, candy, candy canes, candy corn and syrup! Buddy had fun…

Buddy will never forget about this mishap at the North Pole or that…
