1803-1950: Era of Fires and Floods

1950: The Civil Defense Act is created

1960s-1970s: Federal Disaster

Assistance Administration 1970: Disaster

Relief Act (amended in 1974)

1979: FEMA created by President Carter

1988: Stafford Act Passed

2002: FEMA becomes a part of DHS
