WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
THE LIGHTING OF THE FIRST CANDLE OF ADVENT: Hope (Habakkuk 1:1-4; 2:2-4; 3:17-19)
*Hymn LYONS
The candle of hope we light in this hour
Proclaims that the Lord is coming in power.
We wait for a future, now hidden from view,
When Christ in his glory will make all things new.
People of God, prophets like Habbakuk pointed to a future hope, a Savior.
No one knew when he would come. They only hoped they would recognize the Messiah, the Son of God.
We wait with hope for the One who has come and is coming. Today we light a candle to symbolize our hope. We hope in the One who will come.
(Light the candle of Hope.)
People of God, a New Hope is coming.
We will rejoice in the Lord.
*HYMN 88 O Come, O Come, Emmanuel VENI EMMANUEL (stanzas 1,5,6, and 7)
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION Holy and loving God, we have dwelt in darkness and have preferred it to the light;
we have been proud of our accomplishments and have despaired over our
shortcomings. Smooth down the mountains of our pride, and lift up the valleys of
our doubts. Open a path in the wilderness of our lives, that we might find our way
to you again. Refine us and prepare us for life in your kingdom.
Silent Prayers of Confession
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
*RESPONSE OF PRAISE 83 Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus Come, thou long-expected Jesus, born to set thy people free; from our fears and
sins release us; let us find our rest in thee. By thine own eternal Spirit rule in all
our hearts alone; by thine all-sufficient merit raise us to thy glorious throne.
*PASSING OF THE PEACE Hearing the Word
WORD FOR CHILDREN Come and See Marilyn Houser Hamm (Children are invited to come forward.)
“Come and see, come and see, I am the way and the truth,” said he. “Follow me, follow me, come as a child, O come and see.”
(Preschool children may proceed to their child care locations at this time.)

THE OFFERING (8:30) E’en So Lord Jesus, Quickly Come Paul Manz
Geneva Choir Peace be to you and grace from him who freed us from our sins, who loved us all and shed his blood that we might saved be. Sing holy, holy to our Lord, the Lord, Almighty God, who was and is and is to come; sing holy, holy, Lord!
Rejoice in heaven, all ye that dwell therein, rejoice on earth, ye saints below, for christ is coming soon! E'en so, Lord
Jesus, quickly come, and night shall be no more; they need no light nor lamp nor sun, for Christ will be their All!
(11:00) Keep Silence arr. John Helgen Chancel Choir; Rosemary Klein, tenor recorder Let all mortal flesh keep silence, and with fear and trembling stand; ponder nothing earthly minded, for with blessing
in his hand Christ our God to earth descending comes our homage to demand. Let all mortal flesh keep silence. King of
kings, yet born of Mary, as of old on earth he stood; Lord of lords in human vesture, in the body and the blood, he will give to all the faithful his own self for heav'nly food. Keep silence.
(Please pass the fellowship register to the end of the pew and back at this time.)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED-EARLY SERVICE GREETERS Volunteers are needed to
provide a warm welcome to visitors and members as they enter Lingle Chapel to
worship. Only takes 15 minutes before service and hopefully one rotation every 2-3
months. If you can smile, say hello, and shake hands you're in! If you are willing to

WHITE GIFT CHRISTMAS PAGEANT will take place at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary on
December 10.There will be a collection of food as part of the White Gift Christmas
Pageant. Just as the wise men took gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the Christ
child, all are invited to approach the manger with gifts of food (or monetary donations)
which will be distributed to families through Loaves and Fishes at the Ada Jenkins
Center. We are asking for different kinds of food this year to help keep the Loaves
and Fishes shelves full of the most needed foods: Please bring any or all of the
following: Rice, Tomato or Pasta Sauce, Canned Fruit/Fruit Cups (no added sugar),
100% Fruit Juice and/or Oatmeal or Grits. (No foods that need refrigeration, please.)
Loaves and Fishes always puts your contributions to good use as the need is great. Join
us afterward in the Congregation House for a soup and sandwich supper prepared by
Chef Eric. Donations are needed to off set the cost of food.

community during our Angel Tree 2017 project through Wednesday, December 13. The

specific instructions about how to participate in this project on the bulletin board. You
may contact Stephanie Rollans (srollans@dcpc.org or 704-892-5641 ext. 12) with any
questions. Please help us make the tradition of gift-giving possible for area families.
