MICROSCANNER MERGEA fully integrated cable verification device that utilizes the power of smartphones

DESIGN BRIEFWorking with Fluke Network’s Wayne Hoofnagel and Scott Tsukamaki, our task was to combine the capabilities of a smartphone with Fluke Networks’ Microscanner 2 Cable Verifier.

The Merge utilizes the power and portability of a smartphone to streamline cable verification. The Merge rebuilds the user’s workflow, providing data at key points and secondary functions where multiple tools were needed before.

CUSTOM SHELL• Custom shells fit to each phone• Phone specific hardware• Shell is easily replaceable

ONE UNIFIED DEVICE

By placing the user’s phone within the device and integrating the tone probe, the Microscanner Merge reduces the number of devices needed for a typical cable verification from three to one. Its modular cap fits multiple phone cases, allowing for future phone upgrades without device replacement.

MICAAn audio capturing tool to help engage children in their environment

DESIGN BRIEFMica is a sound capturing tool and collection system that fosters new perspectives and deeper relationships between children and their surroundings. Mica’s concept is based on the metaphor of how a conch shell captures the sound of the ocean. The device syncs with an app that provides an archive and sound map for children to collect and reflect on their experiences. The process of collecting has both emotional and educational benefits for children. It exercises critical, imaginative, and cognitive skills and can help create a sense of identity.

DESIGN BRIEFTavi is a transformable lantern for both urban and wilderness settings. Built to last, its micro USB rechargeable Cree LED can run for hours on a single charge.
