already succeed in high level courses
are failing many classes.
don't demonstrate individual determination.
are already being well-served by specific interventions.
Agenda • Communication Tool• Homework is highlighted• Reflective statements show what they are
learning about in class
Parent Comments We really value [our son's]
opportunity to meet w/professionals during class, the college campus trips, and placement in an AP course (which is something he probably would not have done on his own).
This is a class I hope my child continues to take, as the skills he has the most problems is organization and turning in the homework he has done.
Wonderful program! Thank you!
My son had absolutely no study skills upon entering High School. I was so thrilled when AVID was introduced to him. He has made tremendous strides. His grades have improved. He actually goes to his room & studies (which he's NEVER done before!) I'm super excited to hear him talking about his future, including college choices, job opportunities, etc. AVID is definitely THEE BEST thing that's happened to him!!
What students say about AVID…• AVID has helped me become more
self-dependent. I used to depend on teachers to show me what to do. Now I’m more organized.
• AVID helps me realize I do belong in higher level classes. I used to hate my AP class last year. Now I feel more comfortable.
• We all hated the binders at first…but our arms got strong. Now I’m glad I have my binder when I see other students carrying like ten notebooks.
• AVID gives me the motivation to keep going and do better.
• Tutorials help me feel prepared for my tests. I can get the help I need and feel confident that I am prepared.
• I’m a better student because I review my notes using the Cornell Way. AVID makes me look at my notes and write questions.
• AVID has helped me feel more comfortable with my teachers.
AVID Students:*Have high graduation rates*Have high college acceptance rates*Earn lots of scholarships! $$$
