imagery 9” by 9” prints
• Started with Microtek
(model ???) which digitized
nearly all of our aerial
photography collections
• Scanned in greyscale (for
non-color prints)
• Transitioned to the EPSON
1000XL

• Photography • Overhead capture using
digital SLR camera and camera stand
• This method is utilized for archival materials
• May provide better color replication and faster throughput when staffed by photographer

• 1200 DPI – images digitized by CT DEEP
• Greater resolution = larger files but also enables greater detail when zoomed in and provides more information for printing

• RAW (DNG) – option for photography captured materials

Timeframe considerations
• When using students
productivity increases
during summer and
breaks, less during
exams and midterms
(generally)
• Monotony of scanning
can reduce motivation
so need to revolve from
scanning to other duties
periodically
• Aerial photos may be missing, have markings which need to be removed, or need preservation treatment before digitizing
• Conduct tests to estimate time required to digitize a small batch to estimate completion timeframe

rather than greyscale
• QA/QC should be
completed within 24-48
hours after scanning
• Multiple tasks for students
to improve output
